Hi folks,
does anyone have any recommendations? No whistles and bells - just USB in and phono out.
TIA

Hi Javier, commercial - it's for a work colleague. I suggested something like a Cambridge Audio DAC Magic but that was too expensive. He's upped his budget to £120.

Without a shadow of a doubt ... Schiit Modi for ready made product. Perhaps the ODAC as well.
The Modi is A-synchronous as well, ODAC isn't.

Not sure if that's easily available in the UK. It could be quite a bit more with P&P and duty.

Is that the Epiphany Audio ODAC, Frans?

The ODAC from Epiphany is called E-DAC, You would have to look for an importer of Schiit. In the Netherlands we do have one.
He is asking E 119.- for it. add to that shipping (E 15-E20)

Thanks Frans. I'll have a look around. I suspect cost will be the deciding factor so the E-DAC may win.

As an alternative to the O/E-DAC you could consider the Stoner UD100, as far as I am informed it uses the very same chip (though the rest of the design might differ, Frans will be the judge as to which implementation is the better). At 50 USD it might be TOO inexpensive for your colleague though?

Even if very good for the asked price, the Stoner UD100's uses a rather dated TI's PCM2706 as USB receiver which is limited to 44.1 and 48K at 16bit, whereas the ODAC and its variations use TE7022 USB receiver which also accepts 96k, all up to 24bit which can be a good thing if software volume control is used.

I heard it a couple of months ago at a meet. Very good value. UK distributor is Electromod. www.electromod.co.uk/price is £99 inc. VAT Cheers, Ron

Thanks, Ron (and everyone else). I'll definitely pass these suggestions on.
