I couldn't carry a full blown camera up here so I took a little portable and just snapped. The original 'Planet of the Apes' films were shot here. Do you know where my rock is?

OK, it's Lanzarote then. The colour of the earth is the giveaway. I actually got my Canaries mixed up with my Balearics. An easy mistake?

Tenerife. Up the volcano.
I actually did a show up there!!!!!
Mount Teide.
It actually looks like a moonscape and I can imagine, when they had apes running around there for the films, it must have looked quite scary!!

Damn & blast! Yeah, the black soil was the giveaway. It's an area I haven't explored myself though. It does look other-worldly though.
Mount Teide is the name of a Mike Oldfield track too. From his better, more distant, years.

Yes. It was a discussion I had yesterday with Javier when Mike Oldfield came up and I thought of Teide.
The weirdest thing is that it can be close to 45C on the coast with Sahara sand messing up your car, while its totally covered in snow on the peak, where you can look right down into the volcano ..... Which is still active!!
Round the corner, there is a massive plateau where they did the filming. So flat, that you kind of need a rock for something to focus on to creat interest. No plants whatsoever.
The sea is amazing. I went diving from a beach and suddenly, the water drops to a massive depth and you meet mantas and dolphins. Further out .... Whales!!
Just a pity about tourist areas like Las Americas. Discos and thieves!!!

I've found two pictures on Wikipedia, which have been taken at almost the same place: IIRC, I was never in Tenerife, but I was quite often in Gran Canaria during my youth. I was there for holidays with my parents and my siblings. Looking at the pictures makes me a bit sentimental since I have many memories in mind. I also remember the first "Planet of the Apes" film and this rock in the first scene of the film.

Wow. They're better than mine. Better weather as well. Funny that it's the same place.
It is spectacular up that volcano.
