Hi folks, Just wondering whether there's an optimum set up that anyone could suggest for EQ'ing my (Ian's old ) Beyer 990s? Saving for (and waiting for news on) a Kameleon, but want to try and get the best out of them with what I have currently. Thanks, Joe.

Well Joe, Frans measured that exact DT990 so the Kameleon is going to work. I tried a filter for the 900 ohm Beyer and it was impressive to say the least.
If you can afford it, a Polaris with a filter before it will be really excellent. The filters for the Garage amps aren't out yet, but I have a feeling that they will sound awesome with the filtering to get the frequency repsponse flatter and rhe power of the Polaris in order to have some real power behind the signal.

What equalizer are you going to use in the meantime ? I need to know the bands it has.
A filter, however, will be quite different from digital EQ though.

Hi Frans, I'm just using the EQ built in to foobar2000. Just the standard one, but if there's a better add-on I can get it

Ah XNor....
That guy usually knows what he speaks of.
20 +2 25 0 31 -1 40 -3 50 -4 63 -5 80 -5 100 -5 125 -5 160 -5 200 -4.5 250 -3.5 315 -3 400 -2 500 -1 630 -0.5 800 0 1k +0.5 1k25 +0.5 1k6 +0.5 2k 0 2k5 +0 3k15 -0.5 4k -1 5k -1 6k3 -2 8k -4 10k -6 12k5 -4 16k -2 20k -1
This should get you close to what the Kameleon does.

Is anyone interested in doing something similar for the HD 650? I'm not using Foobar though, instead I'm using JRiver 19. It does have the advantage of having a parametric EQ, with (as far as I know) an unlimited amount of steps. I have my own theory but it would be nice to get some input from someone who's actually measured the headphones. Here's a screenshot of the options I have & the two steps I'm using right now..

Woah, just changed this. Made one hell of a difference, thank you Frans for the reference values :-)
Now.... I can get back to looking at upgrades!
