I have this album, Gordon. He's a strange character. Heavy reliance on sampling but interesting. He been working with Peter Gabriel who is really into world music and anything that represents another culture.
It's very Scottish and at times I have difficulty with it since he uses such quirky/off the wall type characters in the album who are extremely 'Scottish' and so for some I think, may be difficult to connect with.
In a way, he kind of makes me think of 'The Imagined Village' who represent a current culture within folk music in the south. His heavy reliance on samples and overlapping sounds works nicely and does represent a type of Scottish culture which will do well north of the border.
I'll have a look at the documentary. He has cancer doesn't he?

Actually, sad to say, he's dead. He died of Cancer in 2005, aged 36 I think. A great loss to music & the world.

Crikey. He went in the end. I think Peter produced something by him from his studio down here. not sure what it was. Poor guy.
Do you know what that album was?
