I decided to go for the hd681 EVO, I might mod the hd681 I already have in the future, but I want to get rid of this headband mechanic and it will be nice to have an alternative to swap around.
I thought that putting a female jack into the headphone might allow me to swap between different cable lengths for use outside my home. But will it worsen the sound, wear off faster, or simply not be possible on this model?
I'll go shopping soon.

I have a custom cable for my HD 650's made by Forza Audio Works which comprises of a 1m length from the headphones, terminated in a 1/4" female jack, and a 2m extension of the same cable. There's absolutely no discernible difference whether I use the extension or not.

Alright. I'll order some of these jacks then and see how it goes.
Thanks.

The cable length will have to be ridiculously long before you'll hear a difference. I'm guessing about 10m+ long.

There's a short lead (+ mic) + a long lead supplied with it which you can also put in series to make a longer cable. The only downside of the Superlux headphones is the supplied cables are a bit stiff and microphonic. I partly solved this by making a very short and thin supple wired little extension cord between the headphone and cord. This lowers the microphonics (sounds that make it into the cup mechanically when touching clothes) to a more acceptable level. If you find the bass too much all you have to do is change the original pads with Yang Wifei pads (I still have a spare set lying around here)

I actually have no idea if I'm interpreting it right, but experimenting by myself will be the only way to get a better idea. I wrote that down for my shopping list. Are 50v capacitors alright?

The original pads (velours) that come with it are on par with AKG and high quality pads. 25V caps (or higher) is O.K. It is very doubtfull there will ever be voltage on it exceeding a few volts as it will already fry your eardrums.
The inductor + resistor mod is indeed better sounding than the felt disc.
You can tinker with the damping materials and such as well and teaches you a lot on the way.

Okay. It will take some weeks before I can get my hands on everything I need. I will report back as soon as I can.
