Really pleased the V200 turned out to be a good buy. If you're buying on credit 2 years interest free ain't a bad way to do it esp. if you can pay back in manageable installments rather in a oner at the end of the 2 yrs. Is that with Audiovisual Online by any chance? If it is sign up for their AV Club newsletter as you'll get a code for a fiver off....not much but would at least buy a couple of beers to enjoy the new purchase Not sure if you've considered it but I think Peter Tyson allow you to trade-in old gear. As you're 'upgrading' it's possible they may offer as much for Mojo as you'd get from a private sale?

not too keen on peter tysons terms. their interest free option is just a deferred balance settlement. it costs £30 to set up and if you settle early there is a £10 fee. so , for me, it may as well be interest laden. the best deal i have seen is indeed AV-online as you suspected. i am going to contact them first to see if there is an early settlement penalty. way i see it, sell mojo should get £300 for deposit. leaving £400 over 24 mth =£16.70/mth. i will keep the idsd , to use when i sell the teac to you.

Yeah, in the case of Tyson's I was mentioning it more if buying on credit wasn't a necessity. I know some folk are in a position to buy outright but still opt for interest free so they can earn interest on the money.....which at today's rates is probably 10p . I'm looking at another Teac unit so the 503 will go nicely with it. Just make sure to order it in black Simon as I can't be doing with mismatched gear

ha, black it is. i do have one thing holding me back. i may have harmed my credit rating. i have missed 2 credit card payments and received an arrears notice. a few months back i settled the card in full and i think i must have cancelled the direct debit from my bank. i had overlooked the fact that this card was still linked to paypal. bought a couple of things using paypal and the balance went on this card. we are not talking a lot of money here. the arrears letter said i should have paid £5 in april and 66pence in march. on receiving the letter i settled in full again £130. this is hardly representative of the national debt and was obviously an oversight, but i may now get refused credit for the sake of £5.66. not happy.

You know, a few years ago, I paid the credit card. Before the next payment, I was going on holiday so I paid a big lump early. The card bill arrived while I was away and soemthing was still left following my previous two payments and they were going to blacklist me for not paying one month even though I paid towards it early.
When I explained, they warned me NOT to pay a credit card bill early because they see it as a missed payment!!!

You make the slightest mistake or oversight and the banks hit you with ridiculous charges and trample all over your credit rating. Their directors do something wrong and they wind up with a multi-million pound bonus, a golden handshake or a knighthood....who said it was a fair world?

Not as good as the iFi micro IMVHO, not worth the expense do you mean as a combined dac/amp or just the dac section. i thought the specs looked fairly good.

do you mean as a combined dac/amp or just the dac section. i thought the specs looked fairly good. It is not specified whether the specs are line out or hp out but I would assume the quote the better ones and that would be line out. 105dB SNR in the 301 Vs 115dB for the micro. THD of 0.0015% for the 301 Vs better than 0.001% (unofficial claim based on the DSD1793 spec) for the micro) Plus there is less flexibility, the 301 tops at 192KHz PCM and DSD128 against 768KHz and DSD512. Sent from my GT-I9505 using proboards

the dac section of the ifi thd is quoted at <0.003% according to website. the teac also uses 2x 1795 chips against the ifi's 1793. i take it from your comments, Javier, that there must be little to choose between the chips? i thought the 1795 was supposed to be their top tier chip. i understand what you are saying about flexibility though. i would like to have dsd capability, although i probably will not have any files above 24/192 for quite some time.
to sum up, in your opinion, is the ud503 worth the extra £300 over the ud301?

If you have the money burning in your pocket I'd say I'd go for the 503, if that is not the case then I'd recommend sticking with the micro. There is a huge chance you'll find the sound identical....

i would not say the money is burning a hole in my pocket. i am always on the lookout for ways to improve my set-up as i want the best sound i can achieve, within my budget. trouble is , some of the changes i have made (and will continue to make) dont really improve things , they just change the sq. for example.... if dac A was £300 more than dac B and technically better, i would probably go for dac A even if i could personally hear no sonic difference. i know this sounds illogical and daft, but thats me!

I can understand that.
Sometimes that's enough. And apart from SQ there are other factors that might help justify spending that bit more e.g. aesthetics; ergonmics; display; features (e.g. filters); desirability (from resale p.o.v.) etc. etc.
I think the main thing with any purchase (aside from living within your means) is that you are happy with it. Especially if it's something you'll use regularly over the course of a number of years.
