Superlux HD572-SP This is the new (2015) Superlux HD572-SP. Superlux was kind enough to send me this brown version as a review sample. These are also available in white, blue and black but all have the ‘creme’ coloured pads. Just like the HD562 seems a (close) copy of the Sennheiser HD25, the HD572-SP seems to be a copy of the HD25-SP. Appears to be a sturdy headphone, except for the (replaceable) pads perhaps. These pads are creme coloured and of the thin pleather kind. You know the kind of material that starts to flake and fall apart within the year. No idea to tell how these will do over time. Do keep in mind that this is going to be a cheap headphone though. What the target group for this headphone is remains unclear. Superlux puts it in the ‘personal Audio’ range. Where the ‘original’ HD572 is called a ‘monitoring’ headphone the HD572-SP is doped a ‘Music Appreciation Headphone’. It seems, however, it is targetted for young people that want a cheap and dispensible headphone for on the go. For smaller heads it may not clamp that hard… The angled 3.5mm plug (without an adapter) suggests portable usage, however, the cable is much to long for this so will have to be rolled up or tucked in somewhere. Below the frequency response of this headphone. More measurements and info HEREYes, I checked for the channel imbalance a few times… it is really there, 3dB between 100Hz and 1.5kHz. No bass extension but lows and mids seem fine but sounding, ‘compressed’ as in not ‘dynamic/open’ though. One would expect to hear more than enough treble and an extension to 15kHz seems more than enough to have some ‘air’ as well. The steep drop-off is similar to the HD562. BUT the HD562 sounds a lot brighter/clearer in comparison. When you don’t like harsh treble than this won’t disappoint… I would even say it lacks treble even though the measurements say otherwise. You can’t discriminate a 128kbs MP3 with a 96/24 FLAC because it rolls off quickly (15kHz).

Slightly off-topic but I've just noticed that after over 3 years superlux has finally revealed HD662EVO. No specs or release date yet just a render. Hopefully, you'll be sent a review sample as well.

The HD662 EVO will be launched at NAMM 2016.
A (production) sample will be sent to me.
The HD668B mkII will probably be launched this summer and is still in development stage. There are only a few samples made so far.

They also released the HD668BMKII, guess they should have called it the HD668B Evo, whatever... hope you'll check it too. Hello Mr Minion. Having just got the hd668b, I must say that it isn't bad. Considering that it retails in the UK for £29. I changed those horrible plastic earpads though for some velvet ones. I've just seen this and I am curious what they're going to be doing to its sound in the new ones. They look posh so I just wonder whether it's a good opportunity to just raise the price?

I was considering to buy a new lightweight on-ear headphone and i know that Koss and Senn PX-100/2 are recommended. Searching around i have found a cheap Superlux model, now discontinued, previous to the 572-SP: the 572A, that was sold alongside the 572.
Anyone have tried them ?

Thanks for the offer, but i already see your review of the SP and i'm not interested in them. Also, i use my old lightweight on-ear mostly because bigger over-ear tend to get too warm on me, on longer usage, so i prefer to buy something with simpler and thin foam cushion. The HD572A have them, like Koss Pro, PX-100 and others... ...but i don't know if they sound well.

Never seen these nor heard these. At least it appears to be able to swivel in all directions. The Superluxes in that kind of 'range' have never sounded good to me. This one may be no different or a little gem. Wo knows.
IME only the likes of HD681, HD662, HD687 and HD687 and maybe the HD668b are considered 'hifi' the rest is low-fi to me. ALso the HD562 and HD685 (expensive for Superlux) don't cut it for me.

They are probably not in the same league. Anyway, they are labeled as studio monitor, with 30mm driver but bigger enclosure than usual on-ear ( 7cm vs 5-5,5 ).
Even if they are discontinued, i have still found them in some european site, one from UK and one from Italy.
