Truly such a waste that he died so young. What a talent!

In 2000, Embrace were gaining national recognition and gave a leg up to a struggling young band led by a certain Chris Martin, by having them open for them on a large National tour.
The two bands became friends.
Months later Coldplay released 'Yellow' from 'Parachutes', and the rest, as they say, is history.
Four years later and the tables had turned. Coldplay were huge and Embrace were struggling.
Except Chris Martin didn't forget the 'leg up' Embrace had given Coldplay, and in the same way as Bowie wrote 'All The Young Dudes' for his mates in "Mott The Hoople", Coldplay wrote the lovely "Gravity" and simply gave it to Embrace.

Great track from Glasgow band Mogwai, who wrote the soundtrack to the brilliant, and quite creepy, French supernatural thriller, The Returned (Les Revenants).

Still one of my favourite music videos ever. So inventive. So full of self-deprecating humour. Love all the little details :- the Marshall stacks and lighting rigs the grubby roadies (with builder's bums) the mixing desk in the middle of the village hall the crowd-surfing, the pyrotechnics, I could go on and on. Just love it, makes me smile every time I see it. Have to laugh when the usual idiots say Coldplay are full of themselves and have no sense of humour

Ñot in a jazz context, but yesterday was enjoying the Bluray video of the Cream reunion gig at the RHA. Enjoyed Jack Bruce's fretless bass.
I have heard people rubbish the sound on this Bluray because of its compressed dynamic range. Well when did you go to a rock gig to appreciate a wide dynamic range! I love this Bluray - fab picture and the bass and percusion is perfect for experimenting with the settings on my new (s/h) REL sub.
Will follow up suggestions from the above list. Thanks.
Regards,
Derek
