The toiletpaper will adress the treble mostly... but not perfectly.
Remove the pads and the foam in front of the driver.
Take a 3 or 4 ply piece of toilet paper and cut circles of a diameter that will fit under the foam. Pull the 3 (or 4) plies apart and play with the amount of single (very thin) plies to seek the treble reduction you want.
Do note that the treble peak provides fake detail. Thus when toilet paper is used you will get less 'detail'. I suggest to listen to each config for a while. The brain will compensate for the 'loss' of treble/resolution.

Well, finally taking the plunge. Just ordered the Kameleon with an HD800 filter. Who needs a HD660S? Not me I'm thinking.

If it improves the 800 like the SeNNater Frans made for the HD650, I'll be truly in Audio Heaven. Christmas in October for me. Of course I'll have to deal with coal in my stocking in December, but supposedly it's making a comeback over here. I hear. I'd like to listen to some music right now, but apparently Microsoft has another important update this week. Just like last week.

We can compare notes when they get here and there. Really looking forward to the new addition to my addiction.

I have a question I've been meaning to ask. On the Garage 1217 website under filters it says "Sennheiser HD800 (adds (sub)bass and lowers the 6kHz and 10kHz peak) * + HD800 with SDR mod". Does this mean I need to add the SDR mod for the filter to work properly or is it a option for a different module?

Thanks Syd. I remember reading that thread but it must have gone in one eye and out the other. I have some light mod material around the driver currently. May need to remove it once the Kameleon gets here. Great thing is I can put it back if I want to.

When you have an SDR modded HD800 less treble peak needs to be removed. When using an SDR modded HD800 with a HD800 filter for a stock headphone the result will be a dull and non 'sparkly' sound. Some of the HD800 peak is actually needed for that 'high definition' sound it has with pin-point location accuracy. Stock it has too much boost. When you make it totally flat it sounds 'dull' so the correcttion has to be the correct one. The 'around the driver' mods may not have to be removed I reckon. Most of what it 'does' is based on placebo judging from measurements made by Tyll. Shameless usage of Tylls research found HERE. Those 'Anax' mods seems to block (=prevent escaping) some of the energy in the 2kHz - 5kHz region by blocking the 'holes' in the enclosure. Those mods seem to make it worse rather than better.

Thanks Frans. It will be interesting to see if the foam I have on the metal ring around the driver has any effect with Kameleon or not. Interesting plots. I have heard a number of modded HD800's over the years. At one point I think people were over doing it. Tyll's measurements seems to show what I thought I was hearing. Did you and the Sennheiser rep at Rotterdam have a chance to discuss why Sennheiser doesn't address the tuning of the HD800 when it is so obvious something should be done? Or perhaps that is proprietary information best left to a PM.

We did not discuss the HD800. Only mentioned that I owned one and could not listen to it without EQ.
When the foam is only on the small metal ring just around the driver and not covering the entire cup (like the original dust cover) then you don't have to worry about it altering the tonal balance at all.

I didn't think it did much, if anything. But decided it didn't hurt so just left it in. Thanks Frans.

One quick question : Any plan to release a Beyer DT880 headphone filter ?
Best regard
