It doesn't, sadly. Otherwise I'd be rich!

I do think the Visseaux look very impressive, and they glow very strong-even the wife likes the look of them -so that, alone, makes them worth the price!! Their price on ebay is disappointingly impressive too ;-) Where did you source yours? www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6J5GT-PINNACLE-NOS-/260747100869?hash=item3cb5bd02c5The same seller does the Visseaux. At least there were no customs and special delivery charges. If you wanted to get an idea how they sound there were cheaper eBay options from the States, like the Sylvanias I sourced.

Howie,do you think the fat bottles would fit in the adapter.....http://www.ebay.com/itm/Strong-Super-SIlvertone-FAT-Bottle-Black-Plate-Bottom-Solid-D-Getter-6J5G-Tube-/111725245511?hash=item1a0357f447, these look really nice. Looks like enough clearance but not having the adapter yet, hard to say.

Looks like enough clearance but not having the adapter yet, hard to say. It does look good. I think it will fit alright. There is about 4 cms from the outer edge of the tube base to the adapter's center point. Anyway seller gives 14 days refund if it doesn't suit and the price looks reasonable too. You need two, though- does the seller have another one?

I had a look on ebay and the Visseaux is about 4 times the price compared to the Pinnacle 6j5. How do they compare sound wise? Thanks. Most of the comparisons are with the Visseaux. I had a short listen with the Pinnacles. They are not dissimilar in sound stage and signature-maybe slightly more emphasised upper-mids and less lower mids, making for a cooler sound overall-BUT these are, I believe, genuine unused tubes and probably will change in character in the next few days/weeks, so I would take these comparisons with a 'pinch of salt'. Also, my Ember is very new. I have also listened to some ?1940''s? Sylvanias, which sound similar, though maybe again just a touch less warm than the Visseaux. Could just be a burning in thing-this is uncharted territory with these 6J5's. I do think the Visseaux look very impressive, and they glow very strong-even the wife likes the look of them -so that, alone, makes them worth the price!! I see, it seems that the Pinnacles could be a good "bang for the buck". I have a pair of Fivre and Brimar 6j5g lying around but I haven't been able to test them since the adapter hasn't arrived. Those Fivres better be good since they cost a small fortune. I probably shouldn't have but I just couldn't help it, I just had to click that buy button.

Looking forward to your assessment. I heard those Fivres are very good tubes.

Looking forward to your assessment. I heard those Fivres are very good tubes. Yes, and it would be interesting to hear a comparison of your three types of tubes after some burn in time :-) Those french tubes are not cheap, but the price of the Pinnacles is quite ok. That is what I like of the FrankenEmber, once you have the adaptor the tubes cost almost nothing. The adapter + a couple of Ken-Rads costs ~50 EUR including shipping, whereas those French 6J5 + adapter ~100 EUR! EDIT: After reading my post I realized I am stating the obvious :-P

Frankenember question:
My adapter has the 4 wires coming out of it that are labeled as "a cap" and "g cap".
How do I know which connector they attach to on the tube?
Thanks!

EDIT: After reading my post I realized I am stating the obvious :-P Have listened to Classical Baroque for a few more hours with the Pinnacles-they have warmed up and violins have a lovely, silky tone at the top end -nice and 'tubey', and non-fatiguing. Both the Pinnacles and Visseaux are pretty neutral, the Visseaux is a bit more dynamic with a bit more in the bass, but the Pinnacle's top end, for me, is especially appealing. I hope they won't change too much in the next few hours! The Pinnacles would be good tubes to start with and, as you say, the outlay with the adapter, isn't too costly at around £37.

Hold the tube up and look at the wires inside the tube coming down from the metal prongs at the top. One goes straight down and connects to the outer edge of the top of the plate-that's the 'a cap'. The one that takes a bend inwards and connects near the middle of the top of the plate is the 'g cap'. I got it wrong a couple of times until I worked it out. I heard a loud rumble and quickly disconnected and swapped the leads-no audible harm seems to have been done.

Nope-but they are cheap enough to take a chance, just out of interest. That's also the Seller that does the adapters.

for the last few days i have been doing most of my listening via speakers, using my Ember as a buffer. last night i noticed that if i unplug my headphones while the speakers are in use, i lose the line-out out put to my speaker amp! i then have to cycle the power to my Ember before the output returns. is this normal?

Plugging or unplugging a HP in Ember 1 should not matter. For Ember 2 the RCA outputs are disconnected the moment you plug a headphone in.
