Plugging or unplugging a HP in Ember 1 should not matter. For Ember 2 the RCA outputs are disconnected the moment you plug a headphone in. Hi Frans, my Ember is a rev 1 , does that mean it may be faulty? i must just add, it is certainly not a big issue, just an observation really!!

Howie,do you think the fat bottles would fit in the adapter.....http://www.ebay.com/itm/Strong-Super-SIlvertone-FAT-Bottle-Black-Plate-Bottom-Solid-D-Getter-6J5G-Tube-/111725245511?hash=item1a0357f447, these look really nice. Looks like enough clearance but not having the adapter yet, hard to say. It does look good. I think it will fit alright. There is about 4 cms from the outer edge of the tube base to the adapter's center point. Anyway seller gives 14 days refund if it doesn't suit and the price looks reasonable too. You need two, though- does the seller have another one? I found a few but only one seller with two and they were not tested, assumed new but no refund or exchange so I passed on them. linkFound this pair looks good but can not swing adapter and tubes today, link

Out of curiosity, what type of dac do usually people use with the Ember? It would be nice to hear about others setup.
I am using an Ifi nano IDSD and it seems to work quite well, but then I cannot use it as a portable amp/dac any longer because it is permanently next to my Ember in the office :-P

The only thing I can possibly think of that may have happened (if it happened only once ?) is that when unplugging the headphone you pulled the amp forward a bit and may have pulled out the powersupply plug for a very short while ? Can't otherwise explain what happened. As said for rev1 the RCA output is always connected and completely independent of what's plugged into the headphone socket.

I have no complaints. DACs are the area where I'm least experienced and knowledgeable.

Seems like an excellent choice.
DAC's I use: FiiO X3 (sometimes), EMU0204, SB1240. I am DAC-deaf can't hear any difference between the 3 if my life depended on it. Of course, even when tested blind I can detect NOS DAC's on 44.1kHz or DAC's with 'slow' filters that roll-off well within the audible range apart.
a few micro iDSD users here I thought.
When I auditioned the ETHER I had a long conversation with the shop owner. He told me they did a blind shootout with 4 DAC's They were in identical boxes. The guys doing the testing had only had to mention which one they preferred. 3 very expensive DAC's and (for the fun of it) a Modi (the early one). He said it came out 2nd leaving 2 MUCH more expensive DAC's behind it.
That modi is MUCH smaller in real life than how it looks in pictures !

I've been using a Musical Fidelity V90-DAC with mine. Like skyline I'm no expert but I'm very pleased with it (also use it with my ifi iCAN).
The Modi is really quite dinky as you say Frans and looks quite good in the flesh esp. the Uber version.
The V90-DAC is a bit bigger by comparison (approx. 6.75" wide, 4" deep, 2" high) but still not exactly big...certainly in comparison to the Audio-GD DAC I was originally considering. That was a monster!!

I use an ODAC XL and I'm happy with it but I haven't heard anything else so who knows? There's certainly no obvious problems.

I use an M-DAC, Bushmaster MK2 and a Muse TDA 1543x4. My sources are X5 (flac), Marantz CD-6004 and Pioneer PDR 609. Sometimes I use the Capella as a pre-amp.

oldson: how do you find the LCD-2 with the Ember? If I ever rob a bank I may jump on those (from my he400i) :-)
