The more I use different amps Mick, the more I think for fine tuning of the headphone, the amp is critical so I often find myself using different amps with different headphones. Just a slight shift on some headphones gets me using another amp to mat h it better. I often jump between the O2 and the Fiio E12. The O2 works well with warmer headphones and the Fiio with 'cooler' sounding ones. Same with x-can v8 and Ember. You reckon we're getting a bit finnicky in our old age?

I have an amp in every room Simon and it ain't a three bed semi!! I do match amps to headphones though and have combos that I like. I use 3 versions of x-cans, v1, v2, v3, Champ, Panda, T1, Neco (mains amp) - I forget model, Ember, v-can, neco portable, O2, Fiio E12 and two 10's, Banzai, Zigis, a couple of Bravo types, and others including some industrial headphone amp which has no name on it. All just for headphones!! Let alone headphones. I've probably forgotten some too!! The Panda's good except for a tiny hum but the better version was the S2 without a doubt. Loved that amp but it went home too. Have often thought about buying one actually because they are very good. Ones I should have coughed up for but they had to go home - Horizon. (Loved it to bits) and Sunrise since it was the first one and I got very attached to it. They have new homes now. All were awesome and I missed them a lot.

Funny thing - I used to put gear together and built my first synth, but following a shock that nearly killed me, I totally lost my confidence and developed a fear of electronics. I was sent flying and felt a physical impact on my chest that I have never forgotten.
I hate being bloody helpless but I also lost a finger and the sensitivity in my right and so that I can leave it on a hot plate and not know until I smell burning!!
So for the past 15 years, I haven't had the bottle. (Or more)
I get deer in the garden, Mick. Have often thought about venison for the winter!!

It's just that they grunt in the middle of the night outside my bedroom window, Mick. I'm tempted to have my own cull!!
Plus the blasted screeching of owls. I don't live near a road, but the noise .......

I don't live near a road, but the noise ....... Ian, if you're looking for sympathy about that you're wasting your time with me . We that live a more normal life on housing estates get nothing more than grey squirrels, urban foxes, neighbour's howling dogs and bl**dy raucous starlings. The thought of having owls and deer in the immediate vicinity certainly appeals compared to that . Having said all that, no matter what it is that regularly disturbs your sleep (well, almost ) must be very annoying. BTW, not begrudging you your standard of housing, just envying it - I'm sure you've earned it. Dave.

I just received an e-mail from Jeremy with the same question.
He hopes to get to work on it soon. Because of high shipping costs/import duties to Europe Javier is probably going to handle the European customers for power supplies only.
At least that is in the cards at this point in time. Might become X'mas present for next year though....

Well, folks you convinced me, I just ordered a Project Ember and a new tube to go with it. Read thru the valve thread and found the last few entries they were saying that the Tungsram NOS/NIB E80CC/12au7/ECC82 tube was one of the better matches, so I thought it prudent to order one just to get a taste for the differences available, thank you all for you info. Am looking forward to this. Don

The Ember is a brilliant amp. I use nothing else at home now.

Jeremy did recommend against the use of the e80cc to me though. the 12au7 is the least favourite of the tubes i have. my preferences are the 6H23n-EB ,6n2p,12at7,12ax7. i find these have slightly more bass impact. i also like the 6h1n-bn , which came stock with my Ember, over the 12au7. of course the differences are slight and nothing sounds bad in the Ember.

Oh great, first tube buy it is one I should not use. Must have missed that. That's what happens when you read all the pages on a subject at once shot, oh well, hope the rest of this amp works ok. Do you usually get a confirmation when they have your order in house, or wait till it ships, or what is the sequention. Paypal sent me noticed of payment and receipt last nite. Holiday this week, maybe that is the holdup. Heard their support was first class, so hope to hear they have the order in house on friday. Anyone want to buy a nice tungram e0cc tube? Maybe I should keep it and look at it every once in a while to remember to read twice, push buy button once.

You can use them however the LED may flicker for a bit and the dc-dc could go into protect when first turned on. While draw is rated at 600mA, the tungsram e80cc seems to draw a load of current at startup. Because of this, I do not recommend them for Ember. Will not void a warranty or anything so no worries there.
Here in the states, we are celebrating our Thanksgiving holiday! Lots of good food and family. Not sure if other countries celebrate anything similar during this time but if you do, best wishes to you and yours!
Musicman, Appreciate your order. I will be in contact shortly with some details and will get your new baby on the way ASAP!

I have had my Project Ember for a day and already have about 11 hours on it. It definately has made a difference from what I was used to. I have an asus zonar going to a Harmon-Kardon avr 510, had it hooked up with rca and optical and while it sounded quite good, the Ember is head and shoulders above it. The downside is not, I may be headed for a divorce, as I don't want to get out from under my senn's 650's and Ember to do anything else. Have to try all 15000, songs first! Of course then have to do it all over again after I try tube rolling and resistance and gain settings! One very helpful thing with this amp is it has bias auto-setting, just plunk in a new tube and away you go, no balancing bias or changing anything. The amp has increased both the soundstage, warmth, and detail, in the mids and bass. If this makes any sense, it seems like the music is (fuller) more of everything. If you are diy get the kit and say some money or have Jeremy build one for you. He did an excellent job on mine, More power than you should need on most headphones. One small gripe, (have to have at least one) I took my dog for a walk this morning, weather 9 degrees, so as soon as I got home, fired up the amp, hoping to warm my freezing hands over the glowing hot tube. Yep, just doesn't get hot, darn, that was one of the features I told my wife I needed it for, not that she believed me. This amp is great, after I have some more hours on it I will experiment with the setting on it, right now stock settings just like Jeremy sent it to me. Solderdude, your design is excellent, I want to thank you for your efforts and Jeremy's for bringing this to us. Much appreciated, Don.
