Stock shaft diameter is 6mm / D flat.
That tube will not work, wrong base and massive current draw on the heater. For an alternate and popular tube, check out the 6sn7 lineup. You will need a socket adapter to note as the pinouts and pin types are different.

Thanks Jeremy, glad I asked first, who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

I did not find anything in that thread about the diameter of the volume pot shaft, hence the question about the size

I did not find anything in that thread about the diameter of the volume pot shaft, hence the question about the size sorry mate i did not mean for my comment to sound like i was having a dig! just wanted to point to the choices of knobs that others had already found.

No offense taken, simply stating the question and I did read those. The link did have knobs but also some nice enclosures, in case someone in the future was looking for something like these in the future. Am really enjoying this amp, just trying to figure out how I lived this long without it! All the best, Don

Frans, may be my imagination - not sure....
I have been using the Ember at 100 ohms out with the Senn HD600 and have forgotten that I had left it there. (For a little bit more warmth)
I was using the T50 and remembered that i had moved it way back, so I set it to near enough zero. To my ears, the t50 sounds slightly cleaner. It may be because the volumes aren't matched so when it went louder, I felt that it might have been slightly better? Do you use your T40 on zero?
I think I'll try the CAL2 on zero as well. It could clean the bass a bit perhaps? (It's 32 ohms0
Not sure if I'm imagining things here.

The T40/50 do not react that much (except for a substantial level drop) to higher impedances. The CAL2 might get a tiny bit more subbass though.

Some nice comments on Head fi about Ember....http://www.head-fi.org/t/197776/sennheiser-hd650-appreciation-thread/14895#post_10081065.....I am connieflyer there. Just so you know, I do plug the ember when I get a chance as it more than meets my needs, and a good value as well. The name connieflyer has been brought up in some forums, want to know who she is! Not who, what, for those old enough I was a flught electronic tech on board the Lockheed Super Constellation. Yes she had propellers instead of jets, but just like tubes, props sound so much better. Wow, usually you have to explain about the triple tail and get a blank stare! Best plane I flew on, many 14 hour flights on the Pacific Barrier when USSR was our primary enemy.

I have been wondering. Does the Ember run its tube at full voltage or does it run it at the same voltage as the OP-AMP circuit?
