A dac would be awesome - but if it ever happens, it would be quite a ways off. Nothing this year I would imagine. I have been trying to weigh out the demand for such a thing when there are some really good options which I cannot complain about in the $100 range. Dicky - They are designed so that one can buy the metal case for their existing amplifier and it will be a virtual drop in other than a small amount of physical work. And yes, not an amp in a box - they will be semi-open. I, and others are rather fond of the look of our current designs so it would be a shame to stick them into a can. The metal chassis will be similar to the acrylic designs. Depending on the generation, one small component will need to be added to ground the chassis properly. Starlight, Ember and Sunrise / Horizon III have the provision on-board to add this component. I wanted these cases out but other projects more pressing are shoved in the way currently and my CNC guy is waiting on his new machine so this is getting pushed back. Now that the supercharger is available, next #1 priority is to get the linear released as it has bluntly - taken me to long. Then metal chassis. After that I need to invest in cloning technology so I can make at least 3 Frans and 3 more of me Sounds cool. Do you have any pictures of prototypes or mocked-up designs?

Hey guys - will keep it short, I am just a guest - member here and do not want to step on any toes by turning the thread into a Q&A but happy to help h2ON0 - Yes sir, it can be ordered during an amplifier purchase or after at any time tdub07 - Awesome they are taking care of you on the tube. And yes, with most tubes, differences are subtle. Some think they make a difference like slapping around EQ bands but no. I can say when you find "The One" you will know it, and when you find ones you dislike - you will really know it Awesome pics too, I mean SUPER awesome! Dicky - Will post up photos of the ideas and proto's when the time nears with Frans and Ians permission. See what you all think.

Oooooo! A partially enclosed metal case sounds great! Looking at the acrylic designs for the existing amps I know you'll do a superb job with the metal one. I'll definitely purchase one. Though... after seeing (forgive me for not searching) another members Ember with an ODAC mounted underneath, I was going to copycat that idea. I'd pull the guts out of my modi to do it. Now with the metal case, I doubt there'd be room to add the modi.

My Project Ember arrived this morning and its a lovely looking thing in its own right, I've connected to the tape-out on my Pioneer VSX-LX60 and the sound whilst listening to Thomas Tallis on Classic FM is quite something ! I do of course have a problem in that anything connect to the receiver using a digital connection can't be heard on the Ember (music on usb, TV/PC connected via optical cable) clearly I thought the Pioneer receiver would convert all digital sources to analog for the tape-out as it does for it own headphone out and for the speakers ? Is it at all sensible to connect the Ember to the Pioneers headphone out thus playing everything, or am i asking for trouble ? Thanks for listening !
PS. Tube glow is glorious, I can see this becoming rather expensive.

Have you tried to connect it to the pre-out ? The most upper 2 outputs on the right side of the rear panel.

Hello solderdude, I tried connecting it FR l+R pre-out on receiver to Ember inputs and that works with all sources, but the volume has to be set at max on the Ember and the sound is thin (no warmth ?) with the stock tube. I only have one other a Voskhod 12AX7VKA, that is alot better with fuller sound (volume is between 1/2 & 3/4) I'm currently let it play for a few hours to settle in (?) am I heading in the right direction with this ? Thanks for any help offered by the way as I clearly need it !

Try to re-adjust the small 'blue' potmeter in a slightly different setting.
Have you set the Ember to 'high gain' ?

Hello, turning the blue pot does nothing at all, I haven't changed any of the onboard jumpers (its set to low gain).

Try to adjust each of the 3 pots and see what colours work as expected. If one does not adjust you should contact Jeremy. he cannot always answer e-mails directly so may have to wait for an answer.
The high gain setting maybe handy if you want less 'travel' on your volpot (has nothing to do with the LED of course)

Thanks for the info, I've had a play with the pots and settled on amber (blue not working) as long as it has no effect on anything else I'm not concerned about changing it.

It has no effect on anything else and is a separate circuit not coupled to the audio part.
I have mine set to an orange/yellowish colour as well that matches that of the filament.
Have a listen to what the gain setting might bring.

I like the high gain setting and resistance on high but i now need to find a tube that will complement my HD580's and give me warm mids/better bass and an open soundfield. This is fun !

Whilst messing about with the settings on my receiver I've found a setting called pure direct (was set to source direct) and the difference it has made to audio through the Ember is astonishing, almost like my ears have just popped. Have put the tube that came with it back in and listening to everything again, that warm, open sound with plenty of bass is all there !
