Hi, Jeremy,
Just little late, but anyway :-)
- if you choose to keep power led, move it to the front. And "use/use not" jumper for power led (as we have for RGB led,) will help those, who don't want power led. - power switch in the back is ok, but don't you think that up/down switching direction would be a little better? Everybody knows - if switch is UP, it's ON.
Any news about your planned all-solidstate amp? Really happy with my Ember kit, but to play with all-solid will be fun too.

OK, seeing my Ember has the Supercharger option, which tubes can I use beyond those listed in the Ember User Manual (dated Dec. 2013)? Can I now also use all of the tubes listed in the Project Sunrise III User Manual? Others, too?
Thanks!

Hi Eric,
Welcome to the forum.
Yes you can use almost all tubes listed in the SR III user manual with the exception of ECC86/6GM8 as the max anode voltage is too low for Ember but perfect for SR-III. With a socket saver that has been rewired you can even use tubes with a different pinning.
Tubes with a 6V heater up to 1A (or 12V/500mA with CT) can be used.

On the tube list the 6n6p gold grid is listed as for starlight/sunrise only. I now have the supercharger installed, can I now use this tube?

Yes, 6n6p and 6n30p are good to go with the SC

Musicman, have you already tried your Tungram E80CC in the Ember? I expect you might prefer the Tungsram to the 6N6P but I wouldn't bet on it. I'll listen to mine tonight to check it out. The 6N6P was my favorite tube for a while.

Yes I had been using the E80CC long before I got the upgrade. It still is one of my favorite tubes.

Having the SC, how about a PCC85 / 9AQ8? From what I'm reading they are similar to the ECC85, but have a 9 volt heater. There are reports of them working fine in several amps, including the Lyr. Datasheet can be seen here: tubedata.milbert.com/sheets/010/p/PCC85.pdfThey can be found rather inexpensively, so if nobody knows yet I would give one a try -- so long as it wouldn't harm the Ember. Thanks!

The heater will run at 66% of its nominal value which may be far from ideal and it will have less emission. Very likely it could still work as the autobias has a wide adjustment range. The heater current will be around 200mA (very low) It can't damage the amp.
This tube could also be tried without SC by the way but the good thing about the SC is that you can adjust the output voltage by changing a resistor value. It could easily be set to 9V BUT you could only use that particular tube.

Hello, first post here. First of all thanks for a wonderful sounding amp. I installed the supercharger a couple of weeks ago and I just love it, even if it made a bigger hole in my pockets. I just wanted to chime in with my personal favorite tubes, the 12bh7a family. Gives you a huge soundstage and it's really relaxed and musical. This little amp makes you almost religious, It makes you want to spread the word every time you buy a new tube. Thanks for a nice place to meet other "religious" peoples.

Hi Johan,
Welcome to DIYAH. You've certainly come to the right place for the Ember, that's for sure!! It's grown to be my favourite headphone amp. What really surprised me yesterday with it, was that I have been trying out various headphones with the Ember and an MF V8 which has been quite heavily modified, and the Ember puts out way less noise than the V8 on low impedance headphones as well as having way more power.
It's a terrific amp.
