I got mine second hand "like new" for £650. It is expensive but not outrageous. Probably my last acquisition for a while...we are bidding for a house :-)

When I moved to this house, it was a downwards move so most of my old stuff had to go. It's a cheap house to run but now, If I want to listen to speakers, I bring out two high tables, take two portable speakers out of their cases and place them in the 'perfect' stereo shape, listen and then pack them away again!! Instead of big floorstanders next to my TV, I now use a soundbar. Instead of a CD player, I use headphones and a Fiio x5. All to save space!!

Hehehe, that is a good approach. We bought the house, and it is certainly upsizing our apartment :-)
So I will stick to these HD800 for a looong time!

HD800 via Kameleon is a lot better than HD650 on Kameleon. Every instrument is so easy to pinpoint. Bass can be great and have excellent rumble yet remains clear and tight. Subbass elevated to the proper levels. Tonally (on well made recordings) the HD650 is more accurate but in all other aspects such as imaging and 'real-ness' the HD800 is hard to beat. I dare say it is even better than the $ 4000 Utopia and some other high-end ortho's.
Stock, the HD800 is too 'cold / clinical' and bass-shy to me. Others may find it awesome in stock form. A matter of taste.

I totally agree with Frans. The differences between filtered HE400i and filtered HD650 were audible but I don't think I could say any of the two felt "better". This kameleonized HD800 is very special and clearly a step up compared to the former. Extremely confortable to wear for long periods.
It has been fun to get back to soldering after 17 years of rest :-)

Hello all...... i have just purchased a pair of HD800s ..... next is the Kameleon from Garage 1217 and possibly an after market cable (Custom Cans ultra low capacitance cable) as the stock cable is too long for my needs..... Ebay (uk) seem to have some competitive prices at the moment..... i picked up my pair of HD800s for £370 including delivery (advertised as 'NEW' with warranty). Provided they are not fakes (in which case i will open a paypal claim) i will finally have my 'endgame' cans. I intend to listen to them as is for a month or two in order to adjust to the sound signature. I currently own a pair of AKG K712s and Sennheiser HD650s as well. Thanks for developing the Kameleon Frans, i look forward to trying it out.

Been sniffing around a (used) pair of HD800 myself tonight. Did see those cheap pairs on ebay but just too much of a gamble for me personally. If it pans though out you've bagged yourself a heck of a bargain and if not then at least ebay / paypal offer good buyer protection. Will cross my fingers for you

That is almost too cheap to be true. I paid for my hd800 second hand "never used" around 650 GBP. Hd800s should be even more expensive...but who knows, good luck!

Think rick3333 bought the HD800 as they're the ones selling for £370 on ebay UK. Definitely somebody working some kind of angle though. A few pairs have now sold for similar money the last few days. All from different sellers, all newish accounts, all with minimal feedback for dirt cheap purchases and all sellers registered in Australia.......so the same person operating multiple accounts would be my guess. Perhaps the Hydra account set up makes it harder for ebay to shut them down when/if customers don't receive their goods or they arrive not as described. Dodgier than Ian's mullet in the 1980's imho

Since my episodes with the msr7 and the Senn Momentum in ear, I am very nervous of things like that. Especially once you get into a few hundred pounds or so.

Oh, you've been stung twice now Ian? I knew about the MSR7 but did you end up with fake Momentum's too? At least when you buy with credit card or Paypal you are usually covered if things go wrong but it's still a headache and takes time for the mess to get sorted. And when it's something like the HD800 or Syd with his TH-900 it's probably the missing out that disappoints the most. Edit: spotted your thread about the Momentum. Think the safest option is to buy unpopular headphones that nobody likes...like the Nig.....shhh!! Best not go there as the pitchforks might come out

Trying to resist the urge to buy the HD800 I've been looking at. Doesn't help that I have the Kameleon sitting here and tunke and Frans are waxing lyrical about how good the Kameleonised HD800 sound!! Listening to the TH-X00 and Lyr 2 in the hope of convincing myself I really don't need another headphone. Next up is the HE-560 + filter if that doesn't work And to make matters worse I no longer have a dedicated listening set up as my computer desk and desktop PC have had to go (moral of the story - don't let your Wife order a dining table without checking measurements lol) so really the HD800 aren't awfully practical. These days the Mojo + Denon do the heavy lifting. Head says 'hell no!', hearts says 'hell yeah!!' Talk me out of it someone

It might help to sell one or two of the others and replace them with the HD800 Mark .....
If it's better than the hd650 on the Kameleon, then it really is going to be good. I really like the Senn and the DT770 on a Kameleon a lot, so these days, I'm sticking with them.
Portable, as usual is just a collection of average headphones. Can't really settle with any, although I've been toying with the idea of a Sony MDR 1A with filter because it's so comfortable on the head. I'm supposed to be sending a mate a portable Kameleon for his Sony after Frans has made a filter, but I'm not so sure that I want to part with the amp now. I like the portables a lot.
If I could afford it, I'd get an hd800 I think. Well, I can afford it, but not sure I want to ..... I still like the Fostex th900 a lot tbh.
Yes, I got my mits on a Senn Momentum 'in ear'. It's ok. Nothing special tbh. I don't understand why 'Why Hifi' rave about it since to me, it is recessed in the mids quite a bit. the treble then 'seems' to be extended but actually, it's not great. Also the bass rolls away while the mid bloom gives the impression of bass. I suspected they were fakes anyway and had a real pair on the way as well, so I compared them and then had a barney with the company who tried to make out they were real. I pointed them to my video and they paid up immediately!! A bit worrying just how many fakes are out there and people reviewing them, thinking they're real!!!
This Ebay Senn looks a tad suspicious to me...... fake or a grey import? I'm surprised anyone would make a fake unless they could sell a load of them and I imagine that not that many HD800's go out.
Only mad people like us buy things like that!!
