I have still to purchase myself a present for my recent birthday. There are many cheap H/P amps on ebay. I am interested in the Zigis C-Moy. I think these have had good reviews. Anyone have anything to say good or bad about them?

Hi Rob, You might like to take a look at the HA10 from Custom HiFi Cables. Both Jerry (Covenant) and I have one and are very happy with them. Ian (who has far more educated ears than me - don't know about Jerry ) has also auditioned it for a while and seemed very impressed - Ian? The guy who designs and builds them, Sean, is also a great guy to deal with, another one of the good guys, and I expect him to appear here shortly. Dave.

Dave, I bought the Zigis for just over £30. It's really cheap and sounds very good. Just a basic Cmoy but there's an honesty about the sound that is really quite good. It's a portable amp not a desk top one.
Negatives? I'd say the plastic box, but it's such little money.

Dave. £250!!! i'm a poor p/t postie don't ya know ;D Thats a bit rich for me i'm afraid, however I am sure it is very good. I have a couple of valve based amps, one which looks identical to the HA1O which uses an ECC82 (as opposed to the ECC88 of the HA10) and an MF X-Cans V-2 suitably modded. I will read the review by Rabbit of the Zigis and my pocket says I may well go with that. Rob.

Rob, if you can go up, the Neco is truly excellent. (about £100) It is also a CMoy but has an internal battery and can be recharged. IMO, it is a step up from the Zigis but I don't know why. I seems just a little more refined, plus the fact that the battery goes forever on a charge. Also, you never have to take the Lithium ion battery out. Just a thought in case you get a special delivery that pays well!!

The new Project Starlight hybrid amplifier looks very intriguing, especially since it seems to have Frans' fingerprints all over it! I look forward to a detailed description of its attributes (similar to the analysis of the PS II and Horizon) soon.

I still have the Starlight proto here... It differs from the final product as we made some last minute changes based on the tests. Starlight info: www.garage1217.com/graphic_design_007.htmI expect the proto for the Ember to arrive next week. It will be tested tweaked and measured. The Starlight proto has a similar output stage as the O2 (same opamp in a slightly different configuration) the final version has an output stage most similar to the CHAmp design (but 2 output resistances selectable) The Ember is more powerful.

Tell you what though Rob, it stops you bothering with the cheap stuff!

I think its every bit as good as my Neco portable SQ wise, although the Neco`s Ali enclosure is a little more "up market". I have no doubt that his latest examples are as good or even better than mine. Mick. I think the newer one sounded slightly improved on the old Mick. I borrowed a V1 and set them up side by side. The V2 is a fraction more 'fruity'. I think Zigis removed some caps. I wonder whether the differences I hear between the Zigis and Neco is simply to do with the op amps. The Neco uses the 8610 or 8620? I do find them a bit 'squeaky' up top, depending on what I pair them with, where the Neco has a fraction less up there. Very close though really and considering the Zigis was a third of the price .... really good value!!

I have ordered the DC Zigis, so will report back when I get it. I have many DIY low noise power supplies that I can try with it

Great. Zigis is normally quick off the mark. I was really surprised how fast it arrived all the way from Latvia.
