why is it that whenever i have to re-install itunes or update ipod software, i lose my music library? this crap is so frustrating. why can they not have a simple "restore library from ipod" option???
if there was another player that i could use in my car without using the "aux" input, i would ditch this crap now!

I had the same problem years back and ditched all of my IPods except the Touch which works independently of ITunes just for podcasts Simon. It is really awful.
I had the computer crash and ended up having to reinstall everything. Of course ITunes took all night to sort out the library and then had to retransfer everything to the IPod Classics that I had because it no longer recognised them.
I hate the way that ITunes takes control of the music on your computer. There are third party programmes that can transfer to IPods without ITunes which are ok.
If you connect in the car via Bluetooth, then the newer Fiio x1 does it. Not brilliant with headphones but stays on in the car. Music is just put onto an sd card so no software needed.

Never bought an Apple product, never will. There are so many more affordable options out there.

I am not an Apple fan either. I am OK with Windows where I feel in total charge of how and where I store MY files, especially music, and I how I replay MY music. Well, OK, I don't have TOTAL control where my files are stored in that you have to use 'Documents', Library' etc.
But... my wife has an Apple iPad Min. And it is SO slick, SO responsive, SO fast. Camera is fabulous too.

I use an IPad all of the time. Way better for the internet since you're on in seconds without having to boot up a computer. Don't touch ITunes though. I access Netflix and Amazon on it.
I only really use a PC nowadays for music transfers to my Fiio cards or making films. Film making locks the computer up for hours while it rips your final master copy. Terribly slow if you work in HD. There's nothing else installed on the computer.
I used Logic Pro on Macs for quite some time at work. Very involved programme for recording and mastering and it worked well, although again, there was nothing much else on the computers.
One nice thing with Windows 10 is that a reinstall isn't too bad. It self installs and leaves your documents folders intact. So if the computer grinds to a halt, a reinstall will help to fix it. I did that to a cheap, crappy laptop that almost came to a stop. Now, it can edit films. Slow, but works. The only thing that I never recovered was the mousepad. I think that the original installation was a 'special' version of Windows for that computer and a clean install lost me the pad, so I use a USB mouse with it which works fine.

Crikey, how did you do that? That's another pain about Apple and their locking up of everything that they sell. The whole industry, including Music needs to grow up and stop being so up tight about files. OK, Apple locks up stuff so we can go elsewhere and get the same thing unlocked!! Just daft.

:-) Just google "requiem itunes". I had to install a very old version of iTunes but it still worked in my case. The beauty of requiem is that it does not re-encode the audio, but it removes the "scrambling" of the bytes using the DRM key. Therefore you don't loose quality.

the only reason i have my ipod touch is to play music in the car and be able to access it by using the head unit in the car. for years everything seems to be geared towards the ipod in this area. though i am lead to believe i may be able to do this now with an android device too. (?) i have a new ford focus(company car) with "sync" head unit. if this is possible i may then buy the Fiio android player and sell the touch. just looked and its the x5 3rd gen £389 wow thats a lot of dosh, it would have to be the do's doodahs for that money!!!!!!
