The SeNNater and my HD650's have been taking a bit of a break. They were still in my traveling case from my last meet. So I pulled them out for a listen. Decided to start with the re-mix of Sgt. Peppers. Wow. I forgot what the SeNNater does to the sound of the HD650! Best sound of the re-mix yet. And I have listened to it with 3 different amps, 4 different tubes and 4 pairs of headphones before today. It got me wondering if this what the Kameleon with filter sounds like or if Frans has tweaked anything since he got the inspiration for the SeNNator. And, also thanks again Frans.

It got me wondering if this what the Kameleon with filter sounds like... Yep, that's what the Kameleon does. It's a fixed Kameleon dedicated to the HD650.

I still love it! Just brings out all the great qualities of an already great headphone. I need to get a Kameleon with the filter for HD800 one of these days. If we can ever have a couple of months without some unplanned expenses. The last few months we keep having a surprise breakdown or some sort of a vet visit, and they have gotten crazy expensive. Thanks for a great treat Frans. And the only one of it's kind in the U.S. !

Your welcome Ian. I remembered that Frans said that I could use the SeNNater as a pre-amp for another amp. So yesterday I grabbed some connectors and tried running it through my Black Widow. Some volume adjustments later and the two are singing together. Hearing things in the mix of some longtime favorite songs that even the HD800's don't pull out. Really musical, toe tapping sound as well. With this bloody heat wave, perfect thing to be doing. Sitting in a darkened room listening to great music.

Is the hd800 ok in the heat? One thing I've noticed in the UK heatwave, is that I am very limited as to what headphones I feel comfortable wearing. Makes a massive difference. IEM's even seem like one of the better choices!!!
I've often toyed with the idea of an hd800 but the cost is just too high for me. I have enough with the Fostex, but something about the open nature and top end clarity of the hd800 is appealing to me. I actually get on with the Sony V6 top end so I'm not sure I'd find it that bad. It would probably compensate for my hearing after 14kHz!!!
I can't imagine keeping a headphone on in 40C.

40c!?! Can't imagine keeping my cool on in that never mind a set of closed, pleather-padded phones. ;-) Waterphones: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterphone would be my musical cooling choice. Ice-chilled waterphone, of course.

Well, we broke a record for July here. Most days over 32 C ever! 41 consecutive days. As to headphones in the heat. The HD800's are probably the coolest pair I have. Meaning without the A/C my ears start to sweat last compared to my other cans. I somehow survived summers here in my youth without A/C. We only had an evaporative cooler. But then I was usually at the river or in a pool back then. Couldn't live here now without A/C. I know, 1st would problems. Our unit broke down a few years back during a 38 plus degree heat wave. Three days with no A/C, or sleep. Not fun and no headphones. How spoiled I've become. The HD800's are a great headphone, but they need at least a little modding or the Kameleon or the treble will drive you crazy fairly quickly. Reminds me I should try the SeNNator with them and see what happens. O.K.- There's a rare summer post.

I think if I go for an hd800, the filter will go in straight away Ron. Don't really use the hd650 without it tbh.

I think that is a smart move Ian. The 800 need a little help with treble. When that's fixed, a really great sounding headphone.
