Into Carphone Warehouse today .... Me: Hi, have you got any cases for a Samsung J5 2017? Assistant: Which version? Me: 2017 Assistant: There's a lot of difference between the 2016 and 2017, so which one do you have? Me: 2017 Assistant: Ah, we only have this case sir, because it's an old phone. Me: Oh, I see, I think it came out in March to replace the 2016? Assistant: Yes, its had its day now and is quite an old one really. You could try one of the street sellers if you want something else. There was an advert in the UK once which finished with, 'It's good to talk'. Maybe they should have added ..... 'It's better to listen'?

You could always just keep it in a sock Ian?? It's funny that your phone is considered old hat. Ironic really that Carphone Warehouse recently issued a profits warning and iirc blamed the decline in sales on people replacing their phones every 2 minutes years these days rather than every 18 months. Perhaps if they stocked accessories for those phones they could turn their fortunes around

I couldn't believe how little she was taking in! Mark. Hope you're well btw!! Another instance yesterday when Helena went to get some kind of 'Moroccan' meal. She ordered two lamb whatevers and the girl gave her one and then asked what she'd like with the chicken one!!! Same place a couple of months ago, she ordered the meals. Paid and just stood there. The same girl forgot to give her the meals. It seems that kids really don't listen any more. Maybe I'd be better off texting it on my 'out of date' phone to her?

You're probably not wrong there Ian.
Sounds a lot like a recent conversation I had with a guy at Western Digital. Received a 'reconditioned' (aka broken) hard drive that arrived d.o.a. Called their support team initially who confirmed it was a dud so then called their store team to arrange a return.
The first thing I said to the guy was that I'd already spoken to tech support and they'd said it needed to go back. He then asked me what the problem was and after I'd explained he then said "have you tried contacting our tech support team to troubleshoot the issue?"!!!
Maybe I'm getting old but it seems like far more people have the attention span of goldfish and lack the ability to actively listen. Who knows maybe I was the same at that age and thinking about what I'd be doing come 5 o'clock.
I'm doing okay thanks. Sorry for not being more present the last couple of months.
Hope things are good with you and yours. Noticed your post the other day about Lucy starting high school. Hard to believe she's that age already - it's amazing just how quickly they grow up!

Now I'm retired Mark, I no longer have to put on an act of pretending to show interest in people when they come up to you and ask daft questions!! After many shows, you inevitably got the local nerd or weird person hanging around to ask something silly and since I was working, I had to show a great deal of restraint in how I answered!! Now, I find that very difficult and when I see people like that, I find it very hard first of all not to laugh at them and secondly, not to be rude!! I got funny with a street seller in Ciutadella who blocked my way to sell me a silhouette. We were walking along the street and he ran out in front of us to show us how he could cut paper into the shape of my daughter's head. I said that I needed to go but he insisted and wouldn't let the three of us by. So I stopped to watch him look at Lucy and pretend to cut out this silhouette. We all stood there going ooh and ahhh. When he finished, he kind of froze and looked at me, so I looked back. The he said if I wanted it, it was 10 euros. I said no thank you, I'm in a hurry. He started to argue and then said, 'maybe you can't afford it, so 5 euros?' I was so annoyed that I told him that it was too heavy to carry. He got really nasty so I did as well. Right in the middle of the street!! Helena said it was really funny, because his face turned when I told him I couldn't carry it. I told her that I only said it knowing that he'd start and give me an excuse to get nasty. He burst into Spanish and unfortunately, I can understand more than I can speak and he was shouting out some choice things about the English and being quite racist really, just because I wouldn't buy his piece of paper that he forced on me in the first place. I'd seen a couple of incidents in Spain on the news while over there where tourists were being told to go home (basically) and he was ranting on about that, so even the local shop keepers who had come out were shocked by what he had said. I thought a full scale argument might have started between him and them as well because they were a bit shocked at his outburst. After I fired back at him, they laughed and as I walked off, some even came out and patted me on the back. Great people .... they still stand up for others and don't look the other way. That wouldn't happen here. The next time I went back to the market there, some of them even recognised me and said 'hello' out of the blue. Then one guy told me what he thought of the street seller in very plain terms!!!! Helena said that since stopping work, I don't show the same patience with people!!! (I thought it was quite funny though because he tried to publicly blow his lid in the loudest way possible, thinking that he was going to embarrass me) Lucy is growing up fast now. We bought a new blazer for her which was far too big and seeing her waddle off with it on was quite comical. So Helena and I rushed off to Reigate and bought her a smaller one so today she looks a bit smarter. She's delighted with her first day which is good (so far) like her Dad, she hates schools.
