as you have pointed out , i most certainly would not hear the difference anyway, so not a deal breaker. i will try and get one either from sxpro on their "try before you buy" option or Thomann uk as they offer a no quibble money back guarantee, but only after i see a few decent reviews. having committed £2.5k on a new bed at the weekend, im in no rush

TBH, I don't like pure Chinese stuff too much. Build quality tends to be questionable (though SMSL has a reputation at some fora) and supoort is cr*p. For a little more I'd target the Pro-ject Pre S2. It may not have galvanic isolation but at the price it offers a lot

No idea when it'll be released but I saw it announced at this Spanish online (no units available yet, www.supersonido.es/p/teac-ud-505) for an eye watering 1.4k €! At 4.2Kg it must be bullet proof. Teac does makes some fine DACs and the AK4497 is a great chip to base them on.

It looks like the NT-505 costs the same and offers an additional RJ45 por for streaming from the PC. If I had that kind of money I think I'd go for the NT rather than the UD.

wow that is an awful lot of money.
my next dac needs to have a proper input selector rather than an "auto select" like the idsd. i'm getting a lot of trouble getting my UD player audio to kick in on the ifi, its irritating the life out of me. i have to keep unplugging the usb input to get the spdif to work!

I don't have any SPDIF source so I never thought about that. Occasionally my iDSD will freeze (or maybe its the PC's dri er) and have to unplug/replug but as it sits close to my KB is not much of a problem and it doesn't happen too often thankfully.

The only place I've seen taking preorders had them at the same price...

At those levels 60 quid more or less becomes kind of trivial. Waaay out of my budget too.
