I like to point readers towards the blog of this Archimago fellow archimago.blogspot.com/ He has a nice test setup. His setup is PC1 (or MAC) with it's own power supply and DAC output -> laptop with own PS (or does he use it on batteries) with USB ADC connected via interlinks. NOT the expensive ones though... which you can find out if you browse the previous 'months' of work. Many audiophiles will disregard his findings in any case as they are RMAA based which, acc. to some, has no relation to actual audio quality as well as the J-Test he does which would not be accurate enough. What I like about this Archimago fellow's tests is he ALSO uses null tests of which I am a big fan. It uses actual music signals and he made a special compilation for these tests. He repeats those tests a few times (takes little time) and averages out the file differences which WILL be there due to differences in clock timing when 2 separated PC's are used. Have a look at his website if you are looking for a sobering effect on the aspects of digital audio.

Ouch.. the 'USB cables sound different' topic is touched by Archimago. Couldn't resist to reply.
