Z Reviews has published a review of the Massdrop Focal Elex. He says these are better than the Sennheiser HD800. I like Z's reviews, because they're amusing. I don't however take them too seriously, especially since he posts this less than 24hrs before the end of the drop. Creating hype I guess.
Still, I'd like to hear from people who (will) own one of these. I can't buy it anyway, costs too much and Massdrop will not ship these to Europe.

Don't have any of the Focal's and never heard/measured the Elex but did hear/measure the regular Focals.
The Elex is somewhere between the Clear and Elear in performance. I don't think they 'beat' the HD800 but they do sound closer to neutral than the stock HD800. With EQ I find the HD800 hard to beat. I preferred an EQ'ed HD800 to the clear and Utopia. Without EQ I preferred the Clear over the Utopia and the stock HD800.
Personal taste. There are quite a few times I don't agree with Z. But I often did not agree with Tyll and a lot of other public reviewers either. I am sure many will not agree with my findings as well.
It remains a question of personal preference in most cases, not about what is 'better'. Only you can tell what you find 'better'.

Guess that explains why Focal doesn't want them shipped to Europe: the Elears cost around 800, and importing the Elex would put it right in that territory. Still, if you're a Focal fan, that must sting, souring perhaps your opinion of Focal.
The 800 still is my top drool-over headphone-I-can't-afford then. If anyone else wants to chime in on the Elex, I'd appreciate it.
