finally ousted my ifi micro with one of these. technically its a step back regarding spec for the dac section vs the ifi, but i hear little (if any difference) with my set-up. its also same story on the analogue side of things, my schiit mani is now on ebay. only drawback so far is an audible click every 20 seconds or so on usb playback. its only really evident on quiet tracks, but still something i wish to address. will have to try coax input just in case its the switch mode psu and not the usb (having said that, it didnt happen on vinyl playback, so guess it must be a usb issue) anyway , very pleased so far. rrp is £695 for these. i paid £450 for this one that is a month old.

I get a similar click on my Shanling M2s if I use it in DAC mode. Shanling was able to confirm the issue, but could only reproduce it on certain PCs and it seemed like Hiby (the guys that actually wrote the firmware for it) didn't want to bother trying to fix it. (Thankfully Shanling is writing their own firmware now)
I guess the standard troubleshooting would apply for you. Try different USB cables and ports. Check for any updated USB drivers. Try different buffer sizes/speeds. Oddly my M2s would play click free if I upscaled everything to DSD - maybe try and see if that helps.

never bought this with the intention of using the hpa. curiosity got the better of me and i'm currently listening to my DT770pro/250 and it is pretty darn good. plenty of power, i'm listening at approx 1/3 vol and its borderline too loud. certainly does not sound like the usual "token gesture" hpa found on many amps. also there is a set of line in rca's so i can try with Kameleon at some point. just tested my denon 2000 and the DS2 is pretty good with the higher sensitivity . both my V200 and Ember are picking up noise with the denon's from my pc at full volume. the DS2 is totally silent, but maybe the unit is amping the noise out of the rca's to the other amps?

Have you timed the USB click? Is it exactly 20 seconds each time? Is the interval the same?
Maybe restrict USB listening exclusively to 15 second tracks. ;-)
If it is a sampling rate sync issue, could result in periodic clicks. In extreme USB malfunctions there's dropouts and satanic messages - since USB audio was designed by the devil. And supported by his mass marketing minions.
If the clicking goes away with SPDIF, then problem solved. If not, then there's a multitude of 15 seconds jingles to explore. Or hundreds to spent on USB cleansing devices...

i have been using an ifi iusb3.0 nano for some time, even with my old idsd. tonight i have noticed , with nothing playing and all amp volumes up to max, the iusb3 seems to add a large amount of hiss (except from my new project unit. so my violectric v200 and ember both hiss in this situation. now i know its way beyond listening levels but does this mean i should ditch the iusb3?
if i plug pc usb straight into the project, both it and the v200 are totally silent at max volume. the ember, only a slight hiss.
the pop every 20 sec is there regardless.
i wish i still had my old hiface2 to try out now.

Only you can decide if the hiss is annoying. If it's a such a low level, then you might consider it bonus dither, but without enough noise-shaping.
Have you tried SPDIF yet?

Win 10 Home Torment Edition? 1903 update brought more DPC latency issues - and more clicks! Can check the system DPC Latency with this utility: www.resplendence.com/latencymonProbably need to update some drivers and try not to have M$ trash them on the next big update cycle

well i have decided to send my iusb3 nano packing! it seems to have no noticeable effect over pc usb straight into the DS2 digital, in fact it adds a hiss (although far above safe listening levels).
have seen one of these units sell on ebay for 200 quid within last week or so, so hoping for the same!
i must admit i have become confused by all the usb "fixers" available from ifi audio lately.
i am still getting these clicks every 20seconds or so, but its only audible on quiet tracks.
the iusb3 nano makes no difference, whatsoever, so its going.
i could live with the clicks but pretty sure i will find a solution at some point.

Good for you! If those USB snake-charmers don't charm, ship them off to the audio circus.
Have you tried different USB ports? Did you run the DPC latency utility above I linked? Also... did you wear a mask while listening? An ear mask. ;-)

I agree. It's starting to sound <hah> like either a latency or buffer issue. If you see a "USB streaming mode" option anywhere, try using "safe". Originally, I couldn't use my X3 as DAC without god-awful amounts of noise/clicks on any setting other than safe
Also, are you using a dedicated USB driver? The stock Windows installed driver could be causing issues
