My ESP-9 (still going strong after almost 50 years!) feels a bit left out compared to the other headphones. All the other ones, whether dynamic or electrostatic, work fine with the new small class D amps that fit comfortably on the desktop - but the ESP-9 insists on a common ground amp. I know I can buy some old massive receiver or integrated amp to drive it but I really hate to have 50 pounds of hardware on my desk. Is there anything inexpensive and new-ish that would provide about 50 Watts equivalent (yes, I know, the voltage is what matters with an electrostatic) and not blow up when I tie the grounds together? I wish I had an ESP-9B energizer with the separate grounds but those things are more rare than the phones!

I suspect the energizer could be easily modified. The - inputs of the energizer are probably simply tied together inside and can be separated.
Why not buy refurbished vintage amp ?
