I got a pair of K612's and I liked how open and natural they sound. However, it has a 2K bump, a lowered bass response, and a high mids dip. So after thinking about it, I cut a donut of thick dense felt to cover the filter paper on the baffle, making sure I didn't cover the driver at all. Sub bass raised by a bunch, midrange dip flattened out, 2K bump flattened out. Perfect. Then just for taste I cut a full disc of the same felt, with the same circumference, and put that on top to dampen the treble a little bit. It measures so much nicer too! Measurements are EARS, so don't trust the spikey looking treble. It's really a smooth slope www.dropbox.com/s/ooini7p4vtvtnc8/K612%20mod.jpg?dl=0

Can you post a picture ? The paper filter around the driver usually only affects frequencies between 1kHz and 3kHz but not so much in the lows. I may experiment with the K702.
Some change the damping at the rear of the driver and get some more bass out of it.

I tried it on my Beyerdynamic Custom Studio, and it also gave me a big bass boost, but it also raised a midrange bump that sounded terrible. It seems like the AKG's naturally have more bass capacity, and the venting through the baffle is where that bass dies. It was also very lucky that the FR had a dip around the high mids where it also got a bit of a rise, filling in the dip. I just tried doing this to a Brainwavz HM5, and it didn't do anything to the bass. Instead it lowers the high mids dramatically. Go figure! I thought I would get more, not less I can post a pic later.

By the way, I tried the HD215 modification you described in your article, and this was the result: www.dropbox.com/s/h2qc1rq3n0apkk4/hd215%20mod.png?dl=0

The results seem quite repeatable ! Still it remains a crappy headphone
