Hi Guys, Some of you will already be aware of the excellent reputation that Beresford products have in some peoples eyes (or ears ) so those that understand these things might be interested in this, especially post nos, 4, 9 and 10. theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?26922-The-Bushmaster-strikes-backKnowing less than most about these things I'd be interested in the opinions of you more knowledgeable guys. Cheers, Dave.

Stan had received a lot of bad press on the various forums well before I had ever heard of him. Being an electronics engineer, I decided to see for myself what all the fuss was about. I bought one of his earlier DAC's, the TC7510, and was converted instantly.
I now have a MK1 Bushmaster, with some mods supplied by Stan, and I would not listen to music without it. I use it solely with headphones, Sennheiser HD650's, and the inbuilt headphone amp is very good. However, I am a fan of Frans designs, and as such I am the owner of a truly superb Project Horizon kit, which is fed by the Beresford Bushmaster. In my opinion, the combination sounds fantastic. I'm using various tubes in the Horizon, ECC82 Mullards, Russian 6N1P being my favourites.

I can't give the same kind of descriptions as other far more knowledgable guys on here, but to my ears, the BM headphone section is damn good. Mine has had what Stan calls the "Venom" mod done. This is a mod which Stan does himself, but as I'm an electronics engineer by trade, he agreed to send the bits to me. The mod includes changing quite a few caps and also the pic chip which controls the unit. After the mod, the headphone section had a better bass response, which I like. However, the Horizon is in another league. I now only use the BM as the DAC. The horizon is for driving the HD650's. I'm now waiting for Frans and Jeremy to bring the dedicated PSU for the Horizon, to see what improvements it can bring. There is nothing wrong with the Bushmaster. It's a really good quality DAC, and now includes a very competent headphone amp as well. If anyone is thinking about buying a Bushmaster, I don't think they would be disappointed. I certainly never was, with either of the DAC's I've bought from Stan.
