In advance of their London concert, Museum of Consciousness has just been released today. I've already heard it. I have to say, I didn't take to it straight away myself and I'm a Shpongle fan I guess. Reasons - Lack of the usual Indian street samples and the really catchy rhythm work of old. For me it's not quite as dynamic as their earlier recordings but maybe the type of album that grows on you with time? 'Are You Shpongled?' is a brilliant album and I have played that so many times. Perhaps they're starting to move on in what they do, but they are one of the bands that I really enjoy listening to on headphones in order to identify and listen to the various voice samples etc', that they capture (often in India) and then use them as part of their won soundscapes. Occasionally, they go a bit too 'disco' for me. (That's a laugh coming from me eh?) They can sound like any other trance band and then suddenly a spark of brilliance emerges. I'll give it a while to see if it becomes more interesting to me!!

That's what I found with it Mick. It's all a bit 'samey.'
It just lacks the great samples that they used to merge into their sounds and this is more like something you' d put on at a 'rave'.
I wonder whether 'commerciality' is starting to bite because of company demands? I'm one to talk, I know but they will tend to move bands in all kinds of ways in order to either make money or dump the band.
That's the hard part ... follow your own instincts and be poor or do as you're told and (potentially) make money? You have to make a living and so make your choice!!
I do wonder.

I'd be most interested in any updated opinions of this album, or any other Posford effort. I only discovered him in the last couple of months and his work blows me away. When he first came to prominence in the UK we were living in Canada and the whole thing skipped by me. I do have a profoundly early experience of hearing Eminem for the first time in a log cabin in the backwoods while blown out of my face though. That kinda compensates.
Anyway, I like Museum Of Consciousness musically but I'm not convinced about it's sound quality. I think it's just too dense a recording; there's too much going on all the time. Sometimes it's what you don't hear that can be magical. There are a couple of stand-out tracks though and of course they're the foot-stompers. How The Jellyfish Jumped Up The Mountain & Juggling Molecules are transformed with the simple addition of L.O.U.D. Museum' is more like Hallucinogen, another Posford off-shoot, in my opinion.
I still think Tales Of The Inexpressible is their best effort though, it's a much more balanced album that isn't afraid to relax now & again. It's also a better production in my opinion. Celtic Cross is yet another collaborative effort which, if you like the more laid back approach, might actually be preferable. It's all Simon Posford though, the man is a master of synths in my opinion. I'm currently learning how to produce music and I have to admit that Simon Posford is great at making me feel insecure.

OK got it. I'm an idiot. Seems Mr Posford is popular.
