I went shopping this afternoon in a touristy area called Colon. Saw Beats headphones at 49 euros. As normal out here, the shopkeeper came running to hassle me and instantly offered me a special price of 30 euros. I asked if they could possibly be fakes? He said no!!! Then special price became 25 euros. I went off and saw some more - shop price 12 euros.
This owner was more sensible, so when I asked if they were fakes, he proudly said, 'oh yes sir, 100% fake Beats.' Special price for me 7 euros.
I was tempted. It was just how proud he was that they were fakes that made me laugh.

You should have bought them!! Knowing how shit most of the Dr. Dre range is, the fakes surely couldn't have been any worse than the real thing

I was wondering about a group buy for some discount. Maybe a perfect match with a Schitt amp.
Talking about Schitt. Lucy screamed out last night because at three in the morning, she turned her light on and saw the biggest cockroach ever. I had nothing on and the scream was so loud, I went running into her bedroom starkers and when I saw it, I ran out again. Got a swatter and tried to hit it. It scurried into every nook and cranny it could find. I ripped all the stuff from under the bed and it made a run for the patio window. I chased it and it lodged itself into a crack that it couldn't fit into so half of it was sticking out.
Helena came in a saw it. She poked it out and the bloody thing jumped and ran into another crack. I nearly screamed myself!!
It was so big that only half of it was in the crack again so Helena told me to quickly get a fork. She held the weapon and actually harpooned it. It was still moving so I boiled some water and put it into a cup and Helena lifted the monster and drowned the bugger.
What a shock.
Then Lucy suggested cooking it for breakfast because it was so big!!!
I now have a traumatised 7 year old, coming up for 8. She said she'd never thought an insect could be so big.
Schitt.

Once whilst working in the Far East we took a family holiday in a little resort on the east coast of Malaysia called Desaru. One evening my 12 year old daughter went into the bathroom for a shower, all very basic. A few moments later came an ear splitting scream and I dashed in to find the biggest 'cockroach' I have ever seen - must have been between 3" and 4" long with wings and a girth to match - didn't stop to measure it, I just took one of the wooden shower slippers and began beating it. Each time I hit it there was a crunching sound but it still continued to move. After about 6 hits it finally stopped moving - it took a while for my daughter to go back in the bathroom but as far as I can tell it's had no permanent effects on her . Dave.

I think this one was close to 3. Horrible looking things. I think I'm traumatised let alone Lucy. It's big enough for a snack!!
I daren't tell the locals. They'll just laugh at me since they're already laughing at my sunburn. I told them working outdoor bars is doing it, but they know I'm doing nights so they now call me 'moon boy'. (Loony boy)
However, I really don't like safaris in the house.

Did a lunchtime do today at a place called Los Gigantes. Beautiful except for English tourists who seem to have an addiction for beer.
It was so hot, I want for a dive. First assailant - a bright blue little fish who picked a fight with me. It was only 2 inches long. Then further on, a shoal of silver fish with yellow stripes that ran away. Then some Gobi like fish that were unbelievably bright in colour.
Next, a parrot fish did a face off with me and pecked my mask. He was watching me rather than me watching him, but finally I had to get out.
The sea bed started to move and it was this bloody huge ray. The Canarians call it a manta. It was like a big dinner table so I thought I'd better get out quick.
The longer I stayed in the water, the bigger the fish were getting!!!
Going to look for whales soon I think. They're out there. One kind of whale came right in to the outside of the harbour wall at Gigantes this morning. They were feeding, so there are whales out there.
Have to recover from the Ray first. Not sure if I'll get in with a whale. Thinking about it.
The island itself is really stunning once you get away from las Americas area with all the discos and night clubs. A really beautiful place and I really like the people. As soon as you speak to them in Spanish, they are delighted and will happily chat for an hour.

Well, I went out to see and we did see some dolphins. They were up to no good though. I think Spring must be in the air! Anyway, they were hilarious and they stalked the boat.
Couldn't go out to deep sea for whales though. There is this hot wind coming from Africa called the Calima so it's dangerous to out into open sea. Did a bit of diving instead. Did keep an eye out in case the dolphins mistook me for a lady dolphin!!
Some Africans have gone missing on a boat coming out of Africa to get here. Apparently the get lots of illegal immigrants appearing here from Africa.

Ian, a few years ago a UK diver off the N.E. coast around Whitby I think, was arrested and charged with gross indecency with a dolphin. IIRC the case was dropped before it went to court after a naturalist specialising in dolphin behaviour came in on behalf of the diver and confirmed what took place was perfectly natural for dolphins. I'm sure that you can fill in the blanks for yourself after your experience this morning . Big lads aren't they? Dave.

No shame either!!
Going out for papas ahora. They sell bananas here when they're bright green. I don't know what to do with them. The don't seem to turn yellow when you leave them and they turn nasty.

I haggled with this big African guy in the local market today for a carved wooden box to keep my headphone plugs Tec in. Heavily carved, and about 10 by 6 in solid wood. He wanted 20 euros and I got him down to 7!!
I also found some more fake Beats. This bloke allowed me to try them. They sound like beats tbh. Strong bass and crisp top. Build is white with no metal expanded - just plastic. 12 euros, so not bad for that price. At least he was admitting they were fakes from China, but they're not actually bad copies!!

I went to the local market this morning and there they were. 25 euros for Beats, so I haggled him down to 12.
I told him I'd start busking in front of his stall. He laughed and agreed to stop me by selling them to me. One thing about these African traders, you can have a real laugh with them, and when this big guffaw comes out, you know they're going to cave in!!! It's hilarious. Even Lucy saw a bracelet at 1 Euro 50. Copying her Dad, she offered 50 cents. He laughed and he gave it to her!!!
We also bought some hand carved percussion instruments. We went off and the market guy chased after us to give LUCY a birdy present. You blow into this pottery bird with water in it and it tweets.
Helena bought some hairgrip things, and the girl asked Lucy her favourite colour and then gave her a hairgrip of her own!!
My kind of people. Very kind.
Also met an Indian guy crying in a shop! Yes ..... crying. He worked in the shop and had been watching a Bollywood film, saw Lucy and thought she was so pretty, he gave her a pair of sunglasses. He said the film made him homesick and Lucy reminded him of his daughter who he hadn't seen for eight years. Now come on ..... Lucy is blonde ..... how can she possibly look like an Indian kid?
Went into the local restaurant for a meal. Special request for Lucy - could they do an egg with chips, since it wasn't on the menu? The waiter brought 3 eggs for her with chips and chips for Helena and myself.
The people here are really lovely; especially if you speak to them in Spanish. They're really shocked when you speak and ask about it. I guess the English dominate with the English language and they're not used to seeing anyone make an effort.
Anyway back to the Beats. They're ok. Not brilliant. However, they don't have the thundering bass of the Beats and aren't so steely in the treble. In fact, the lack of treble extension actually makes them quite nice to listen to and really not ratifying. Worth 12 euros actually.
I'm thinking of moving here!! It's a lovely place and I really like the Canarians a lot. Laid back and easy going people. Make the effort and they are SO kind. Winters are really mild. It rarely rains. Just very hot in the Summer when the calima wind blows from the Sahara.
The volcano is just brilliant. Drove up to a cable car that takes you to the summit. You can't breathe too easily up there so your breath is literally taken away. The filmed Planet of the Apes up there. Along with other sci first films.
The sea is warm and diving is superb. Marlin fishing on a boat which is bloody scary. Cheap restaurants.
Worst thing I guess is the lack of proper beaches since it's all volcanic and Rocky. There are some if you know where to look. The touristy area is a good work place in the Summer but you do get plagued by people getting you into shops. However, they are all willing to haggle. (With great humour too)
Great place and I'm going to miss it. May finish recording by Tuesday. Not sure, so may fly off home then.
