I wrote down some info on transformers on the website. diyaudioheaven.wordpress.com/tutorials/power-supplies/scroll down to the 'transformer' section. I plan to add more practical info on how to connect and measure them in the future. If there are any comments or things that need (more) clarification please make them in this thread and I will incorporate it in the article.

Hi, Frans. I have a transformer with 0-115v 0-115V input ( i call it pin 1,2,3,4) because my country using 220V, i tie pin 2,3 together and connect pin 1,4 to the AC socket then plug the jack in, the transformer got really hot, what did i do wrong?

There are 3 possibilities (or maybe more and missed those).
1: the transformer has a winding short (primary or secondary). 2: the primary windings were in anti-series, but in this case the output windings would give no output voltage. 3: the transformer is only suited for 60Hz, but given the fact it has 2 primary windings this is unlikely.
