Well if you asked me if I have to tell it like it is warts and all...
It is not a pre-amp at all as it has no amplifier in it so should not be called amp. It should say: attenuator & input selector.
A disadvantage of the silverplated slider contacts of the input selector could be that it will become 'scratchy' rather soon when one is living near the sea. So... silverplated copper contacts in the switch followed by goldplated copper contacts in the attenuator with silverplated copper wiring connecting it to goldplated connectors.
Some customer feedback remarks made me smile... as did the 'techspecs'. Output Impedance: 2.5 kΩ ..... (yeah right !)
It could be handy if you If you like the looks of it and need some extra inputs and/or attenuator. I use an extra passive attenuator myself behind my pre-amp but this is 'merely' a single 10k ALPS pot (blue velvet) for practical reasons (not to improve the sound in any way)

Thanks Frans for your thoughts, warts and all . At the end of the day measurements are only that, mere measurements (you see, I do learn things some times, albeit only slowly ). The only thing that a purchasing judgement should be based on is how it sounds in your own system and I have enough faith in Jerry's opinion to happily accept that if he says it makes a positive difference to his system then it does, end of. I still can't get into AoS forum but another friend whose judgement I trust, based on mutual experiences with identical bits of kit, also says that he has heard it and intends buying one. Given the unbiased write ups it gets (on AoS, if we ignore any herd instinct tendency) and the fact that the maker offers a 30 day free trial and a 2 year 'no quibble' guarantee, some people might say it's a no-brainer to give it an audition? Just in case it needs saying, no disrespect is intended. Knowing virtually nothing about hi-fi when I came into it a few years ago, I have no problem giving equal respect to totally opposing points of view until any such time as either one is discredited. IMO there will always be disagreements amongst audiophiles about such a complex mixture of art and science and I can happily live with that, unlike some of our more fanatical missionary friends . Thanks again, Dave.

It's only a simple potmeter with an input selector switch in a standard enclosure with a piece of wood in front of it, nothing more.

a shot of the internals would surely reveal the truth.
