I have acquired very cheaply some TV and audio distribution boxes. The boxes have I set of input terminals and multiple output terminal sets. The TV boxes have 3 RCA type output terminals (as expected) plus L and R RCA terminals for the audio. I have no interest in the TV distribution side of these. The audio distribution boxes have 1 set of inputs (L and R RCA ones) and multiple 'outs' similarly equipped. All the boxes are mains powered and no switches are involved i.e. 1 in and multiple simultaneous outs. Questions: - 1) I understand that digital and analogue interconnects are interchangeable, at least in some people's opinions - does the same apply to these distribution boxes, that is say, if I use only one channel would the audio boxes also act as digital audio distributors? 2) could any of these boxes be used in reverse, that is, as multiple inputs and one output? I can provide some details about each of these boxes if it might make any difference to their possibilities. TIA, Dave.

1: In general they are unless longer lengths or HD TV signals are present
2: as the boxes are 'active' this could mean two things. A: relays are used for switching, in that case the audio part might well work 'reverse' B: if distribution amps are used in these devices cannot be used 'reverse'
simply give it a try.
For video most likely a ditribution amp/buffer is used IF 1 input can feed multiple outs. For audio this might be the case.
The video part should not / cannot ? be used for audio (if distrubution amps are used)

Hi Frans, Thanks for your advice. I'm quite happy to give it a try now as I take your response to confirm that no damage will ensue to the rest of the kit in the set up - not too bothered about harming the distribution boxes themselves. FWIW, if anyone can make use of the TV distribution box, FoC, I can provide pics for them to assess whether they can make use of it s long as they cover the postage, once I establish that I don't need it (because the audio boxes will give me what I want). Cheers, Dave.

Hi again Frans, This is the distributor that I am most interested in as it does digital audio. It does not come with a PS but the manual linked below states 5v 1A, centre +ve, so that aspect should not be a problem. Inside the box there is only a PCB with a few small vertical cylinders on there and a few small SMDs, very sparsely populated. If this will actually work in reverse I'll be a very happy bunny - any further thoughts? I can post pics of PCB inside if it would help. www.goyona.com/CHDD-8C.pdfTIA, Dave.

It is highly likely this thing is one direction only. This seems to be built for TV outlets so all TV's have the same sharp image. Most likely on the bottom of the PCB there are some huge chips that do all the work and these chips usually handle the whole signal, video/digital and audio.
Don't think these devices can do audio in a reverse way.
