I turned on the V8 for the first time in a long time today.
Admittedly, I went from the HD598 on the Mont Blanc amp to HD600 on the V8 because I decided to sit down and have a listen rather than use a portable set up.
I got a bit of a surprise from the V8. Thin as hell. I went back to the Mont Blanc and it was fuller and so was the O2. In fact, it was so edgy that I thought something was wrong and had to turn the HD600 down because it was quite edgy.
Further listening at lower volume showed a great sense of airiness and space, but the sound was a bit lifeless tbh. Now, I don't know whether my 'ear' has adjusted so much to the Ember that the V8 just sounds edgy by comparison or whether the long break from the V8 has meant that it needs to be run for a period of time again to get its (what I remember as)its old fullness after Mike heavily modded it for me. It has a big power supply in the form of a Special Edition Little Pinkie and Mike took the guts out and changed the capacitance. He ran it for a time up in Scotland so I didn't hear it from 'fresh'.
I'm wondering whether it's possible to hear the fact tat the caps are 'flushed out' after a long break? It's been playing for half an hour and I'm not sure if it's just me adjusting or whether the sound has started to fill out again. If the caps are in effect devoid..... can the amp actually sound different?
The V8 isn't a bass monster but it was never like that at the start, so my guess is that Mike ran it for some time before sending it down?
