First a note to Mods, particularly Ian: - Having written this whole thing out once before I thought I'd give the Spellchecker a chance to confirm my spelling is still reasonable, only to have the whole post 'wiped' - not a happy bunny ain't this one finger typist!! Shortened version: Just persuaded my Raspberry Pi and RaspyFi program (thanks for the link Javier) to output sound direct from it's 3mm jack into my cans. Whilst the Pi is very slow and the RaspyFi program very clunky and not very intuitive the SQ that emanates from it (to my ears) is surprisingly good, up there with anything else I have but these are just first impressions so don't misinterpret them. I have noticed a background crackle on one track at least but that may be too high a volume. Controlling the volume is not self evident and the stock output level is a little louder than I normally listen to but not painfully so. My next plan (trail-blazing stuff for me ) is to persuade the Pi to output to my Amanero USB DAC - wish me luck and if you have been there, done that and got the T shirt feel free to pass on the benefit of your experience . Cheers, Dave.

It works for me with no problems.
Did the whole thread get nobbled or just the post that you were typing?

If it works OK for everyone else maybe I had digit trouble (but I was not aware of anything of that sort). Dave. EDIT/PS: Just done the same thing with this and it worked as it was designed to so put it down to my digit problem - sorry for the inconvenience

I did notice, thought it looked great, then wasn't sure how long it's been like that so didn't comment

I was testing the spelling check thing just now and noticed a Windows 'allow popups' bar down the bottom of the screen, pressed allow and the edit disappeared, so something is not quite right.

Maybe it's a bit buggy. I can easily take it off. I'll have another look. The spell checker can be useful for people using English as a second language though.

I'm not personally working on an RPi (it is in my misc projects TODO), but my friend is and he is keeping me up to date. He is currently running Volumio and output is through a grubDAC. FLAC streaming from NAS has unresolved choppiness but FLAC over USB is flawless. He compiled pianobar (Pandora support) and has it running as well. Specific to pianobar, read the documentation carefully because the gain is set to +4 by default and is a known contributor to clipping and distortion. I believe he has tweaked a few settings within the applications and the drivers to eliminate brief stuttering but I don't have the details.
He has been very pleased with the audio quality and has stated it easily eclipses the sound of his Windows computer even with foobar and ASIO. We have parts on order to build a γ2 to experiment with the I2S output.

Hi Stimpy , I know nowt abaht computers or Pi s but I like faffing around with such things. I got a Pi before Christmas and managed to get music through it playing on my mid-fi. Shortly after this our daughter-in-law to-be presented us with twin boys about 9 weeks premature so it's been dropped in my list of priorities lately. IIRC I managed to upset something and it now fails to go to the GUI properly (RaspyFi). When things settle down a bit I'll have another mess around with it but, because it refuses to cooperate and I know very little about how to sort out the problem, it might be a while before I get round to picking it up again. I do recall very definitely that I was very pleasantly surprised by the SQ I got when it did 'play' so well worth playing around with IMHO. Dave.
