Oh yes .... closed headphones are a different world because they are in their own little room, Dave. Tricky little devils but there is also an attraction to having your own little 'shed' as a male of the species and shutting yourself off from the world.
Even shopping isn't too bad for me with a closed headphone on!!

speaking of off topic. hehe, I can't help but ask, which space is your "new" listening room Dave? is it the closet or the dog house? and "the curse" well they do say ignorance is bliss that is why it still amazes me to see so many walking around with total shitty ipod ebuds . doot dooot doooooo on a side note i have contacted 'chi ner" twice via their contact form on their site and have not heard a peep in reply, and site says they reply within 24 hours. now back to the AE51's and being "closed" sealing off the pads sound can still be heard, not as much as an open can but it can be heard. I'm curious if they "AE" are going to add a 1/4 inch plug in jack with a wood wrap on it. I actually asked them why there was not one included (any 1/4" jack of any kind), and was told it was not part of the package, I then told them everyone does not listen to music via an ipod and most of my use of the AE 51 would be from home via a dac/amp combo and it it would be cool if they have a wood wrapped 1/4' adapter included with the purchase of the AE 51 or at least available for a small up charge. they/he said and I quote: perhaps he was blowing smoke up my ass we shall see in time. he also told me that they "AE" are headphone enthusiasts and read several audio forums. Kunal if your out there stop in and say hello

Order done, i think everybody already knew my choice other than me , MaN277 principally. AE51st on the way(tomorrow), now begins the hard part, waiting. Thank you all, you've been part of the most funny part when i buy things the prepurchase, you've all been very useful and all your suggestions will be remembered for future buys and comparison, i'm very excited and i can't wait because i want to understand how different, if it is, our sound perception are, so i can understand better what you talk about and suggest, having a point of reference for the future. Thank you again guys, i'm loving my permanence here .

cool mashv I hope you enjoy them. headphone burn in, some say its a fact some don't think so. and regardless I have always done this, now you can get different noise files to loop on your media player i.e. white noise, pink noise and such, and I believe there are actually compilations out there made for this purpose, rotating from this sound then another. but... personally what I have ALWAYS done is try them to see how the sound (new headphone) for a starting frame of reference. choose some albums in a play list and loop them to play for a few days at least, and the only thing I do other than that is raise the volume a bit louder (but not so much that it sounds distorted) than I would listen to the music to really give the driver diaphragm a work out. and for shits and giggles I occasionally will " check back in" to see that they (to my ear usually do sound different, placebo? fact? I don't know ) and usually they do, its not uncommon to see people suggest 100 hours of "burn in" or MORE. take this as you will, and perhaps those with more knowlege about "burn in" will chime in. now comes the hardest part for you .... WAITING for the postman to deliver your new cans

So i should make a loop of pink noise, white noise etc AND the loop of albums? Or you mean looping album instead of the burn in with white noise and co? Anyway it's a long way from uk, i'm sure it will take more than 10 days , most of all will be wasted in Italy because of shitty postmans and posts services. It will be a loooong wait.

Your most welcome mashv here are a few things I come across mind you I have no idea as to how good or bad these are, I only just use music. first a website appoach: plug phones into your computer , go to this link , push play and let it do its thing. jlabsaudio burn in linkand files you can download, there are 4 of them. I've seen suggested just pink, or pink/logarithmic combo only, and some say all 4... and yet still some feel that burn in is all bullshit, I shall give the links and let you decide for yourself. Pink noise www.mediafire.com/?ymv0iozymzn Logarithmic sine (Up from 30hz) www.mediafire.com/?30ommiwwe1jWhite noise www.mediafire.com/?dj0rtzj3hw4Arithmetic sine (Up from 30hz) www.mediafire.com/?zxmwydmiwzj

speaking of off topic. hehe, I can't help but ask, which space is your "new" listening room Dave? is it the closet or the dog house? Hi Man, My 'other half' does not share my taste in music and I do not share her taste in 'soaps' so on many evenings she retires to the conservatory at the other end of the house and I use the main 'viewing' room to listen to speakers. Sometimes, whilst she's watching 'crap' TV in the main viewing room I'll put my closed cans on and listen to music. On the night in question she needed to watch something she had recorded in the main viewing room and, rather than endure it with her I decided to retire to the conservatory and watch a bit of live sport. When that was over I decided to take a wireless streamer (Logitech Touch) into the conservatory and try out the open cans - and it was quite a revelation. So, no closet or dog house . Dave.

dave hehe right on man good thing , I hate to see a fellow relegated to such, we have enough to deal with living with them , and no I'm not talking about the dog speaking of the other half , mine would like the house to be church quiet, and god forbid there is an explosion in a movie, see feels the subwoofer is sent from the devil himself , and there is NO WAY it needs to be that loud..... I have gotten away from speakers some years ago, the shit we put up with right? lol so if she wants to complain about my buying headphones or amps its her own fault lol she drove me to it. and don't u know that TWO of ANY THING I like is TOO much , why on earth would you need another one of those but I got her number, buying her something SHE wants BEFORE makes my wants apparently easier to swallow . * wink wink so conservatory is that just a fancy word for a "porch" with windows?

Hi MaN, In a country where space is not quite so constricted as here in the UK (and getting more so, thanks to our friend's in Brussels ) our conservatory would probably only be regarded as a small porch with windows - just short of 17ft by 10ft. Nice in the summer but needs a bit of supplementary heating in winter - I wonder whether a nice high powered amp might help with keeping it warm? Cheers, Dave.

the AE51 now fits AROUND my ears (circumaural) I have just discovered this last night and feel rather silly not thinking of this before. I was just holding them "feeling" how they are made, (call it admiring my new baby if you must ) with the backside of the ear cups facing my palms I used my pinkie and index fingers and put them at the four inside corners and preceded to apply outward pressure on that inner seam on the pads, thus creating a larger space. they I put them on, now my WHOLE ear fits within, I get a much better seal and find the headphone now sounds even better, AND they are more comfortable for longer listening periods. if you have them try it and tell me what you think Peace Oh and Dave, don't feel bad my TWO porchs combined are not as large as your ONE conservatory AND they don't even screens , let alone windows

Are your ears bigger than mine? , oh and do you find the earpads foam loose their shape with time? Edit: I was theorycrafting about remote possible mods in the future(not near), what kind of earpads could fit in the ae51st? And someone knows a list of 40mm drivers headphone? I've heard of hd650 costing 60€x2(or less, i don't remember), it wouldn't be bad, but i think they aren't 40mm, and i don't even know if the sound would be good. Obviously is nothing i'm going to do in the near future, i only like to think of possibilities

humm, lol how on earth would I know if my ears are bigger than yours ? I'm not about to try and measure my ear size and post it here lets just call them average I've had them less than 2 weeks , rabbit perhaps a few weeks more, I don't feel anyone can tell you that with any certainty . but I can tell you I have had headphones from expensive to cheap and have not had ANY earpads lose their shape over at least an 8 year period. I have heard the kind like on the koss porta pro (read thin uncovered foam pads) sorta breaking down and falling apart over time. as far as a list of headphones with 40 mm drivers ... well your on your own on that one

Ahahah, you could have measured them , joking. Glad to ear they fit well, a better chance they'll fit mine aswell. I've read of hd650 flattening in earpad (and sound), i was assuming it was a common possibility. Good to know it's note the case. It's not very easy undestand drivers size, i've searched hd650 size but it's almost impossible to find. Anyway, it's nothing important, i only was curious.
