Ouch - I checked the tracking number and was wondering why they were getting held for so long. Surprisingly I've never been hit with a customs bill on imports to the US before.

They have got here Christian. Many thanks. Everything in one piece!!
Unusual sound ... you were right. A K701 with BIG bass. There's a hell of a disco slam on the bottom. Reminds me of the slam from the CAL2 actually. Surpriingly comfortable too for a smallish headphone. They are close(ish) to the Yamahas that I use with a more ramped up bass. Nice seal too.
Weird that the graphs I've seen don't fit exactly what I think I hear. For my lugs, it seems to have a big bass attack and a dry, kind of 'sucked out' mid with a sharp treble. A 701 with bass? The mids are really 'dry' sounding but kind of accurate sounding as well, but for some reason, I feel as though there's a 'suck out' somewhere in the upper mid or lower treble witn a big boost on kick drum frequencies!! Kind of U shaped FR with a really dry middle which is kind of unflattering but pretty realistic. It seems to put voices back in the mix and plants them more firmly within the band rather than at the front!!
On Amazon.com (USA) there are guys saying it has no bass. All I can say is they didn't get a seal. To me, it's massive!! However, it's quick and pretty controlled, a bit like the Denon D2000 bass with less hangover.
Also, to me it's better from the O2 than it is from the Mont Blanc amp. The O2 seems to give more slightly more 'prominence' to mids and seems more balanced for some reason, which may account for the wide variance of reviews on the internet.
I do feel that the reviews are a bit harsh though. It's not that bad but I have a feeling that Inner Fidelity possibly reviewed it first and wasn't that keen, so it 'flavoured' what people have said afterwards perhaps?
I think I'd use them portable if the cable wasn't so heavy or it plugged into the cups like the more expensive one does.

I agree with that assessment of them. My first impression upon getting them was K702 with Denon bass. I had a tendency to use it with the Ember more than the O2 when I had it. I find the reviews to be harsh as well. I'm finding myself to disagree with Tyll a fair amount lately as I hear more gear.

I find that too Christian. I think I prefer more bass in a headphone than Tyll but recently, I've found that the lift has to be a bit lower than the upper bass for me to enjoy it!! As long as it's away from the 'rumble' area for mens' voices, then I enjoy a robust bottom end.
Frans once mentioned that a 6db lift in the bass helps to make them more "speaker' like, so perhaps that's Why I prefer it and also why so many headphones exhibit it. It's just a question of which bass frequency for me!!
Yes, I think reviews are pretty harsh. It's close to the Yamahas that I use except the extremes are more defined so I guess it is more Denon like.
They have made me wonder about the more expensive one with its bass tuning and better construction but they are too expensive.

I find that I enjoy a robust bottom end. I do too, but that's a whole different thread. Maybe a whole different forum
