I had a preview from this album today. It is out on CD. 2 CD's and a dvd actually.
The track I heard is an old YES number and it's painfully poor imo compared to the old YES rendition. (And You and I)Listening to this track made me realise just how good YES were and how brilliant the vocalist was with his high, squeaky voice. The song sounds like Transatlantic and is played well; after all, they are all terrific players but if the rest of the album is similar, I don't think I'm going to be that keen on it.
It's definitely a 'Transatlantic' sound but that might be the problem for me. It's the same old thing and perhaps starting to get tired. Morse and his Christian lyrics can be tiresome as well. There are covers of other bands' work as well and I'm not sure that was a good route.
'Goodby Yellow Brick Road' 'Indiscipline' (King crimson) 'A Whiter Shade of Pale'
Seeing those three makes me wonder ..... why?
Why do a cover of King Crimson's? A wonderful band being played by an American prog band in that Transatlantic kind of way. I heard old 'Ozzy do 20th Century Schizoid Man' and I have to say that imo he really carried it off well. Powerful and sincere rendition of a Crimson Classic but the Transatlantic sound almost gets in the way of the stuff that they're covering.
Not sure if I'll get the album. I may try and download it from somwhere cheap first to decide.
Has anyone got it? What do you think.
I'm really not sure that they've take a good 'Yellow brick Road' this time.

It seems that the preview I got is not the UK release. The one I've seen in the UK is 5 tracks, one CD. It's well played and brilliant at times, but so formula laden that in the end, I have to admit, my (low) attention wanders. Tracks imo, are really badly judged in length and the material that they use doesn't warrant everything that they play. For me, there's some lack of real development so that it's one episode after another so that the long tracks kind of lose their way. The version I heard had two CD's and a DVD with covers of other bands on it. Perhaps they rethought the market and issued just the 5 tracks instead? Quite strange. In fact, I enjoyed the covers more than the original Transatlantic stuff!! It's bad enough having different headphones and ears, let alone different vesrions of an album!! Aha - here's the version I heard ..... splashurl.com/pe4knz4
