"The AK120 has a higher specification than the AK100 thanks to it being driven by two Wolfson WM8740 digital-to-analogue converters to allow each channel to be driven separately. This "dual mono" design is normally seen in high end HiFi DACs."
I have the same dual mono Wolfson 8740 dacs in my SM-6 and they genuinely produce a beautifully clear, smooth sound.
Hi-fi World constantly raved about this player (or rather it's AK100 version) and they are not a "flavour-of-the-month-mag" like What Hi-fi', so I tend to give much more credence to what they say.Unfortunately, a bit too rich for my blood

The FiiO X3 also has the same DAC chip, but just one. Much cheaper and can also be used as an USB DAC on the side.... Slightly lower specified in certain aspects though.
I wouldn't dare walking around with that much money in my shirt pocket and would always be afraid to drop it or be afraid it gets stolen on vacation. Also I would feel obligated to buy a portable headphone to match that price.

I'm so ....... tempted....... If I bought one, I don't think I'd tell anyone: a) They might think me nuts/rich. b) I might get mugged. c) So perhaps perfect sound for a short time. (not forever, like Philips say) It's a serious looking DAP isn't it?
