I had a listen to the Solo2 today. It seems a lot more balanced sounding than the old Solo. It was pretty impressive with pop music, so I shuffled off to an HMV store and compared it side by side with the old Solo. It has more punch and also seems more extended in the treble. In fact, it sounds pretty decent and is quite a bit better than the old one. It's also more comfortable with it's more plush pads.
When I got home, I instantly went to the AKG Y50 to see how I felt about its sound after hearing the Solo2.
The mids are perhaps a bit more recessed on the Y50 but a similar 'punch' is there, so as good as the Solo2 seems , I don't feel very comfortable about its price. £169 is a lot to pay for a headphone for portable use. It has a much stronger top end than the Momentum. In fact, the Momentum seems very dull by comparison but they have terrific mids and aren't so sharp up top.
The Y50 is half the price and tbh, I think perhaps better value. I might go to £99 for a Solo2 but it's just a bit expensive imo.
