Had some fun tonight playing with 6SN7 tubes in Sunrise III. They also work in Starlight and Supercharged Horizon amplifiers. It has been known for a long time they should work (8 pin version of a 9 pin 6cg7 / 6fq7) but I do not think anyone ever got around to trying it. So I did. And they do. Cake to bias in. To note, the 6sn7 to 12au7/12ax7 adapters do NOT work in Ember - do not try it with these adapters. One has to manually set up sunrise, starlight or horizon to 12v via the jumper. Also, the top cover will not fit with these fat bottles Just something new - fun for the rollers.

Try:
pin 7(or 8) of 6SN7 to pin 4 of amp pin 8(or 7) of 6SN7 to pin 9 of amp (instead of pin 5 of amp)
The (non Ember) amps should still be set to 12V but it should now work on Ember as well.

Will have to give that a go! The adapter I received is potted and flawlessly built - no way to make a quick change. Will have to make up some sockets when I get some free time. Would be a cool adapter to have around.

Well, should be interesting if you can get it to work, one of those things I have wondered about. Thanks for the update.

Any plans to put one of these adapters up for sale here? I would buy one in a heartbeat. Thanks Jeremy,

How about building a better quality amp like this one? Only ember quality of course....http://www.ebay.com/itm/Little-Bear-CLEAR-6N5P-pure-valve-tube-Headphone-Amplifier-amp-preamplifier-P8-/400688187230?pt=US_Home_Audio_Amplifiers_Preamps&hash=item5d4ae0875e

The problem with this amp is that it works on very high internal voltages (> 100V) that are potentially lethal ! 48V DC is the max voltage that may be used for 'open frame' thingies and is used in the Ember, Horizon & Polaris. Besides it doesn't nearly reach power levels the Ember can reach Also the circuit cannot possibly be PushPull and single ended at the same time. The output impedance isn't specified but cannot possibly be low Ohmic. Jeremy hasn't asked me to design an all tube amp though we have spoken about higher voltages. he needs to correct the Polaris manual and complete the linear and make the filter PCB as well and he is kind of busy with work lately as well.

Hey Musicman, As Frans pointed out, there is a lot on the plate and little time between building, life and other. But I give her hell anyways keeping up! - Polaris manual modification is finished, Frans will have a copy this evening - Filter PCB is the next priority, we have that in order for an easy, cost effective build. I am working on that now - The biggest delay in the linear has been more chassis / safety related. Frans and I finished the basic design of it all awhile back. Now just have to make sure it is safe as can be. If I could simply slap her into acrylic, she would be out the door already! But the thought of a kid sticking their fingers inside or being electrocuted..... cannot have that so working out the chassis details. - On the adapter, I would like to build one up. Most makers keep the profile low... have potted pins and a single ceramic socket. If I just used two ceramic sockets for testing (that is how I will proto it) it would end up very tall and ugly.
Make no mistake, while we are slow on releases - we release some really cool stuff!
