Looking at a recent post I think I am reminded that the K550 cans can be improved by replacing the stock pads with 'velour' ones. A quick search on the bay for such pads proved fruitless but I think I recall a member here stating that velour pads intended for another make and model of cans also fit the K550. Am I right in my thoughts and if so can anyone point me in the direction of the necessary velour pads please? TIA, Dave.

Unless they are original AKG pads chances are the FR may be altered significantly. This could be for the better but most likely may be for the worse. I hate pleather pads but the ones on the K550 are not that offensive and feel quite soft. THIS SITE says you can use K240/HD681-EVO pads. Could be fun... I have the K551 here and a load of different Superlux/K240 velours pads and a measurement rig. I hope my new measurement DAC/ADC (EMU 0204) comes in soon.

Thanks Frans for your usual prompt and very helpful response. In case you hadn't already put 2 and 2 together I would like my comparison between the K550 and the HE400 to be as close as possible in terms of pads etc. I have some HD681 cans with velour pads somewhere so I'll look them out when I do the comparison. BTW I'll take your translation of the Polish web site 'as read' - thanks for the link. Dave.
