Guy Manning is a writer of great songs and I really do enjoy his work. Sometimes, the mixing of his albums are a little crude or the types of sound that he's used can be not great quality. However, he's working from a garage without the backing of a company which makes it difficult in some ways for him. If you already know of him, he played with the Tangent, who are an excellent band.
This second acoustic album seems more relaxed and the sounds/mixing are better than they have been. This is a really pleasant listen and Guy's very distinctive voice isn't quite as prominent in the mix and it seems much better balanced as a result on most of the tracks.
This album seems less 'urgent' and I think shows Guy doing what he does well. Tells stories through music with some lovely illustrative work going on around him. Guy is a very prolific writer and seems to produce one album per year.
This is one of his better ones imo. More relaxed, better mix of sounds and just seems to be better balanced/mixed overall. I did feel bad when I told him that his string sounds were not very good on the keyboard that he was using and he did reply saying that budget restraints working without a company has meant that he has had to compromise in this respect. However, this album sounds great.
Well done Guy!!!
