Thanks to the O2 - I've found that mini jack plugs aren't exactly consistent.
I complained about the female sockets on the amp being a bit unresponsive but also, with some headphones, I actually couldn't get the jack plugs to go in with out a fight or they plain refused!!
I've now found the cause. The jack plugs that won't go in easily or refuse to, have a ridge on the rounded bit at the end and the receptors in the female jack won't open enough to go around the ridge. I also found that some mini jacks are slightly larger. (very slightly)
If you forced it in, it would break the female socket - I have done this before unknowingly with another amp.
The headphones that have this tiny ridge are the Denons and Beyers. (DT990) The ridge is so small that you can't really see it but you can feel it if you rub your thumb down the rounded section on the end of the jack plug.
The answer is just to leave the full size adapter in on the end of the headphone lead and use a Grado adapter which works fine.
It just surprised me that these mini jacks are not exact and have this ridge I'm talking about. They are the screw fits - the ones that screw into the full sized plug that Beyer supply and it seems Denon as well!!
Or the ridges are caused by screwing and unscrewing the adapter over time?
Anyway, at least I know why these plugs are jamming on the way into the O2.
