I'd like to talk about Boris Blank's new release, Electrified.
It comes in various versions but all contain the same music. There's even a boxed version which contains 3 LP records, 2 CD's, 1 DVD, MP3 versions &, wait for it, a cassette tape. Along with a 36-page book it's quite a package.
I don't have that. I have the music contained in the three optical discs. Unfortunately this version is 320bits but that will change tomorrow, Amazon willing.
The music itself? Absolutely incredible! There's 58 tracks in total and none have been previously released, this is the first time they've been heard. They span all the way from the late 70's to right now - there's a new album coming in the Spring. Every now & then you catch a glimpse of a tune that clearly later developed into tracks which were released but that's half the fun.
I've gotten a bit sick of the recent glut of 'celebrity' box sets being released. Pink Floyd's recent 'The Endless River' was bad but have a listen to Mike Oldfield's 'Man On The Shore' to hear just how dire it can be. I actually think the real Mike Oldfield was kidnapped by aliens around 2000!
On the other hand, you could do it the way Boris has done here with Electrified. It's like having 5 new albums of a band through 40 years of music & technology. And the actual sound itself of course is spectacular as ever. Other than the actual samples & hardware used throughout the the last 40 years there's nothing to tell you how old the recording is. It's that good.
It's been a long time since I wrote anything so praiseworthy of a musical artist but this release is just awesome.
edit - here's a link to a page which details how this album actually has been born...
