Guy Manning is someone that I have followed since his Tangent days, when I saw him with them live a few years back now. He has since left and produces one solo album per year himself. He produces his work from home, so it can be a little raw as far as samples go, but I really like his song writing abilities. I did tell him that the samples were a bit rough and he replied that he was more interested in writing rather than producing.
He is now appearing on this album by United Progressive Fraternity which features some really well known names.
On 31 March 2014, this new band was formally announced. Led by Mark 'Truey' Trueack, and 3 other ex-members of Unitopia plus Guy Manning and others. The debut album "Fall in the love with the World" has been released and includes guest appearances by Jon Anderson, Steve Hackett, Steve Unruh, Ian Ritchie, Jonathan Barrett and Claire Vezina, amongst others.
I heard a track onThe European Perspective which is produced by 'Wilf', real name Dave. He spends an awful lot of time on the show which is truly excellent and well worth downloading. I liked the track a lotsoI got the album. It's interesting in places with what I feel is a heavy 'Christian' feel with references (I sound) to the Far East. Some may well not like the Christian overtones in the lyrics, but the album is a pleasant listen with some really good moments.
I feel that Guy really fits in well with the other performers, although I would have loved to have heard his voice as well. The vocals are heavily processed and there's a strong auto tune in residence but I enjoyed it.
I lost contact with Guy since he appeared on the other site to reply to me. Perhaps I'll email him again. I'd love to perform and compose with him myself actually and do a bit of prog!! I'll soon have plenty of time on my hands as well. I do find Guy Manning's work interesting and this venture with another np and is good too.
