That looks fun, Jeff. JeffI had a minimoog at one time. A slightly clumsy machine to say the least. It was a machine that seemed to have a life of its own!!
The start of electronic synthesisers was very exciting. Not like it is now tbh. Each group had synths with their own sound sig so they could be more easily differentiated. Nowadays, they all seem to use the same stuff.
That started uo in the 80's I think. All groups started to use the same latest offerings from firms like Yamaha. Nearly every group had a DX7, quite a clangy sound due to the way the sounds were made where you layered one sound on top of the other and then you got lots of harmonics being created. It was called additive synthesis and reproduced 'bell' type sounds really well. Result was, everyone started to use 'bells'. Also, a gritty sounding string sound.
Then the new fangled Roland D10. Fat and mellow again, using 'subtractive' synthesis. Everone started to use those.
Nowadays, formulas seem to rule in a lot of stuff.

Slightly digressing Ian!! Do you know what YELLO are up to these days!! any new albums on the horizon!!, seems ages since their last. Mick. Not sure that the last album did too well, Mick. Not that they're that bothered. Dieter isn't shall we say, that keen on working. He can be quite haphazard even when recording, and Boris is the driving force really. He's the one to make him do a second take!!! Too many fingers in too many pies!!! I think for older people, it's really good news to hear old bands, but in all honesty, old bands reviving rarely do as well again and imo it's as well to leave things as they are. Not sure if another one will appear.
