Hi Syd, Thanks I also send him the file. I get more questions about the file. Seems to be a Google thing. Have no problems downloading the file with Firefox (on Ubuntu). I have posted this on the website: note: When trying to download the file linked to above using google browsers you get the following message: ” File Download Blocked
The file you attempted to download has been claimed by Google to be in violation of their terms of service and cannot be downloaded.
Still have questions, or think we’ve made a mistake? Please contact support for further assistance.” Downloading using Firefox works fine. Something to do with Google. There is no violation of their TOS. They are just being Google. If you want to download the pdf I can also e-mail it. Please use the ‘ contact form‘ in this case.

Using Firefox is not enough, even if I use Firefox, but on Android, I will receive that message.

I came here because my DT880 is not made to be driven from a smartphone (600 Ohm). So I looked for a portable amp first but the idea of having another box was not very convincing to me.
I decided to look for a closed, around ear headphone. First thought of a DT770 but didn't want to spend much money and liked the idea of a removable cable.
Then I stumbled over the HD662 EVO and the review from Solderdude.
Mine arrived yesterday from Thomann. First impression, way too much bass for my taste but not too much treble. But no problem, I will remove the felt and do the other mods...
So I removed the pads today, and to my great surprise I realized that there was no felt!
Well, I taped 4 of the 6 holes, put the velour pads on it and reduced the clamping pressure a little. Now the bass is much better, for my taste still a little to much, but ok. The treble seems also to be a little better now, perhaps because of the reduced bass.
So far I'm happy with it for listening with my phone or tablet.
Thank you Solderdude!

Hi, I also just received it from Thomann, I confirm there is no felt... will try the mods. However I am very curious if they changed something else when they removed the felt, so the mods will not be optimal anymore. But: the clamping force is crazy high. If that cannot be remedied, they are impossible to use for me. Its like having my head inside a motorcycle helmet for children. When I don't have them on, it seems they try to destroy themselves with all this force. Is there a trick to lessen this? They crack (screak?) a little bit when I straighten them out, so I am afraid I will destroy them. Since they were only 15euros I also got the HD681, the comfort of these is absolute bliss after the 662 evo tried to stress test my skull, nice and light. I also like the sound (it seems both are clearly in the FUN department as stock). 15 euros is clearly an absurd low price imo Edit: well silly me, of course youtube has the answer to lower the clamping force: www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpffkWPY6DkI came here because my DT880 is not made to be driven from a smartphone (600 Ohm). Yes, the HD681 is way more comfortable and a better design (from AKG actually) The HD662-EVO is less adjustable and not more sturdy. Just different looking. my son uploaded that video a while ago. There is a link to it on the first page.
Possible the drivers have changed over time but maybe they just removed the felt. Try different amounts of toilet paper layers to find your optimal treble.

I quite liked the 662evo without both filt and foam, i did'nt find it especially piercing (at least I've heard many earbuds be much much more piercing (earbuds, not iems)). But I actually think I like it better with a layer of toiletpaper (2 sheets). Its quite easy to put the paper behind the foam and tuck it in from the front, so I will experiment some more.
Other observations on the 681 is that they leak a lot of sound. And the bass is pretty crazy. But I like it

When the link to the HD662-EVO pdf does not work (it doesn't on anything Google related) try THIS ALTERNATIVE DOWNLOAD which is the same article but remamed. If you still can't download the pdf I can also e-mail it. Please use the ‘contact form‘ on the website or PM me in this forum. Even the alternative download has been claimed by Google, wtf they're up to? Ofc I have the pdf in store, but... Did you try asking MediaFire's support about that?

It seems to be a google thing. I can download from both links but am using Ubuntu and Firefox. Everything google related does it. Perhaps someone reported it ? There is nothing offensive or infringing about it. All the words are mine, all the plots are mine and all pictures are mine. I don't think Google will do anything about it. O.K. so I changed the article, added some small info and used different PDF compression resulting in a different file and gave it a different name. This is the download link... which should work diyaudioheaven.files.wordpress.com/2020/03/hd662evo-modifications.pdfWill upload it on the website and remove the alternative download links. Hoping this fixes the problem.

Hoping this fixes the problem. Maybe you'll have better luck if you upload the files as .zip? From my limited understanding, it could be that the "AI" used in the webcrawler could be "seeing" Superlux and modification and flagging it based on that. On other forums dedicated to PC stuff, some folks are hesitant to even mention software names that may be used to tweak/modify how Windows 10 works incase the utility gets flagged and taken down (it could just be paranoia, or even me misunderstanding, so keep that in mind)

Hmmh... Kately, I've had trouble with these cans. The rods have bad solder, I think... Also, the cups seem to amplify outer chatter - any way to add some isolation? The pads I should change too, to hybrids...

Those rods are indeed difficult to solder. Needs a hot iron with enough wattage and some scraping of the metal.
Don't know if isolation could be improved that much. Maybe other pads could offer some more isolation ?

Oops, a typo there too Should've been lately, not kately. The Pads are one thing, I'm using velours now, but would like to change them to something a bit higher with leather outside, velour inside for comfort. That should add some isolation. And maybe if I add a small layer of something to the cups, dunno what though. I'm actually thinking about rewiring without using the rods, when I have time, the cable would run along one rod and the whole thing enclosed in fabric skin

I have bought the higher 'comfy pads' they don't measure well nor sound that great, they reduce bass and increase the 5kHz region. modified production HD688 and same headphone but with thicker, bigger and fluffy hybrid pads. The effect will be similar on the HD662 most likely as I tried it with a few headphones and all showed similar-ish results. Another option for the wire could be to use shrinktubing. Run a wire along the rod and use shrink tubing. Keeps the looks almost the same.
