Hi. Sorry about the necro but I was planning on buying some superluxes and I have some questions... Mostly about the Evo. Will the halfpad mod affect my ability to locate where sounds are coming from? What about the fileter mods? I don't think so but I want to be sure. I'm asking this because I wanted new headphones for gaming and I've seen people praise the HD 681 Evo when it comes to sound locating and gaming in general. Another question I had concerns the output resistance. From the mod guide: The problem is that I have no idea what the output resistance is on the DAC/headphone amp I'm planning on using (SMSL SD-793II). All my attempts at googling this come up with nothing. Would anybody dare to guess what the chances are that the SD-793II has an output resistance that is too high? It's an inexpensive 70€ wall powered DAC/headphone amp. Can't wait to get some soldering done!

It has a low output R. (judging this from pictures)
I don't think the EVO excells at sound location but once modified it is a rather good headphone with a 'normal' soundstage.

I see. some reviews can sometimes exaggerate... I was planning on also buying the HD681 and modding that too so I can compare myself which one I like more. There's so many versions of the 681 though. Does it matter if I get the red ring version or 681B?

A modified EVO is somewhat 'smoother' sounding than the modified HD681 which is a bit brighter/more forward.
Would go for the red version, the -B has much less bass.

A headphone with an absolutely enormous 'bang-for-your-buck'.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll get the red ring 681. Very excited to compare how they sound unmodded vs modded

I thought I ordered 662 EVO but I accidentally ordered 681 Evo. In my opinion it sounds too harsh without the felt so I put the felt back. I don't like the sound signature much.
Hope 662 EVO is better.

IMO the HD662EVO and HD687 (both modified) are better than HD681EVO (even modified)
