I didn't do it .... Helena did!!!
So -
spirit onto cotton buds and tried to wipe up from the centre. Spirit onto a rag to dab up the rest Back to cotton buds. Hot soapy water to wash carpet. Loads of clean hot water to get the soap. Paper towels galore to soak up the water. (Ink still came up on the towels) Stood on dry paper towels over the stain area to get as much moisture up as possible.
Stain gone!!!!
The carpet is beige and the stain was red.
Thank goodness for that.

Red ink on beige carpet is nightmare material! Glad you got it out.

So let me get this straight. If you add red ink to a beige carpet it makes the air turn blue?

I had to bite my tongue, Mark.
I keep returning to the room to see if it's come up again from underneath. Ink creeps very easily and a small blob can turn into a bloody great smudge.
There was a hint of pink when it dried. So, loads of spirit again and paper towel to soak it up. Then stand on the paper towel to get it right down and I left it again.
Next return when everything was dry ..... gone!!!!
Nah.... it's just one of those things. Good job I keep a load of spirit. Might buy some vodka now.

Last Thursday saw my first foray into non-oem (ie cheaper!) printer carts. My original cyan had run out so it was the first colour to be tried out in 'pirate' form. I somehow got splashes of ink over both hands; I think it had leaked, just a little, into its plastic wrapper.
Anyway, that evening, we were due to meet neighbours for a meal at a nearby pub. And both my hands were covered in bright blue dots. Washing and scrubbing didn't work. So, using a cotton bud, I dabbed neat bleach on each spot and gave each mark a rub. Success! Then a generous rinse with water.
Bodes well for the durability of the copycat inks though?

Nail varnish remover is meant to be good for removing it too I think. I gave up on 3rd party inks because they seem a bit hit and miss. Sometimes they seem to leave an awful mess inside the printer and I think our last one died because of that mucking up the sensors.
Recently bought a cheap HP printer and singed up for an instant ink trial for 4 months free printing. The bundled ink carts they provide are much higher capacity so don't run out very often and when they begin to run low the printer tells HP to send out a replacement which arrives well before the old one runs dry.
We don't do a lot of printing so pay £1.99 p/m for an allowance of 50 sheets (can rollover a max of up to 50 unused sheets each month). Can upgrade the allowance temporarily if the kids are going to be doing a lot of printing for school or college and then revert back afterwards.
I think I spend a lot less on ink as a result and it's definitely a lot more convenient. Only thing I don't like is if I don't print for a few weeks HP e-mail me a reminder to connect the printer to the internet so they can check the status. I just ignore them and print as & when I need to and they don't seem to mind that arrangement.

1st rule of buying printers: We don't buy inkjet printers.
2nd rule of buying printers: We buy only Brother printers.
By the way: HP is a Sony equivalent.

First rule of print club....
Never had a Brother printer. Had a couple of Canon...bloody awful. Had a couple of Epson....even worse. Few HPs too (Sony are fine in my book).....decent and reliable enough but ink not always the cheapest. But with their Instant Ink service I think it's a very good arrangement for our more modest printing needs. Try to be as paperless as possible.
I am a big fan of laser printers though but they are just too big. If we had the space I'd buy one in a flash but there are five of us squeezed into a modest semi so space is fairly tight. Might need an extension added to house a bigger printer!!

The thing with laser printers is that the toner doesn't dry up and clog the heads. Best solution for an occasional printing. But yes, they are not the smallest.
HP printers were simply the best back in the day, especially the pro models. Then something happened - probably committees of accountants.

I dont buy inkjet printers either, the ink costs more than gold I only ever buy Brother Laser printers, they are so economical. Used an HP all in one inkjet for over 12 years. Best printer we ever owned. Replacement cartridges were reasonably priced and lasted a long time. Then the cartridges started to go up in price like an Epi-pen. Didn't last as long. The printer finally died. We bought a Brother laser jet. Came with a free cartridge. That was 4 years ago. Still using the original cartridge. Fast clear printing. Never going back to an inkjet. They might be cheaper initially, but you end up paying way more in the end with ink cartridges. And no issues with carpet accidents. Ian, are you buying vodka for cleaning or for you?

Well, it did get the ink out Ron. So it must clean out your insides as well I guess!! The worst part is that the carpet has no pattern and is beige!!! So everything shows and if you're like me, once you know a Mark is or has been there, you can't stop looking in case the bugger comes back!!
