You boast as much as you like, Aakshey.
I don't need to! In fact, I try not to. I don't want to be broken into!!

If you don't believe me, why don't you audition them? You live in UK it is easy for you to audition. Let me know your thoughts as well once you hear them

In response to my email to AVI:
3. How do they compare to Sennheiser HD 650?
Very similar, not quite as clear, just as smooth and with less bass.
4. How do they compare to a properly amped Senn HD 800 or Audeze LCD2?
Close but not as good, way ahead of any passive speaker though.

Weird...
very similar but obviously less clear and less bass ? that doesn't sound similar and certainly not 'better'
HD800 and LCD2 are completely 'opposite' sounding headphones, bright 'overly' detailed open and forward plus a tad lean in bass extension (depends on date of manufacture) vs. excellent lows, great mids and subdued highs with a lush character. Compared to which headphone would the speaker sound close to ? The speakers won't be as good they admitted but acc to the sales rep/expert it is better than any passive speaker ?
Those seem like quite 'commercial answers' to me instead of valuable information someone can do something with. perhaps they just wanted to 'answer' some of your questions in the least amount of time hoping to make a sale.
There are most likely many passive speakers that will have the edge on it. There is ONLY one way to find out and that is buy them and try them IN your home, don't rely on other peoples opinions which may differ and the room may differ.
It is possible those active speakers may outperform passive speakers in the same price range when they not only actively filtered them but also compensated them (similar to the HP filter) In the end some will like it, some won't... 'better' is relative in that sense and in case of speakers depends on the room (in all aspects), placement and listening position. Are they nearfield or farfield monitors ? e.t.c.
You don't need to convince everyone here to buy or listen to these speakers or to prove your listening skills, nobody here can 'check' it and either has to take your word for it or doubt your findings. IF you like 'em and can afford 'em buy 'em.
Post your findings and that could be it.
You see, we (most forum members here) all heard HD650's and/or own(ed) them for a long time and have heard that in many different setups. The fact that you just 'discovered' the HD650 and bought it and only now find out your speakers weren't as revealing as HD650's tells your audience you are merely just 'starting' in this hobby which makes it really difficult to trust your judgement and findings is the essence of the 'friction and doubt' you encounter. I would advise you not to try so hard to be 'right' just enjoy your music

Frans, will you just post a list of the best one of every aspect of audio listening to save me auditioning everything and buying loads of stuff I subsequently realise I don't really need or maybe even like. I want my friends to hear the best sound that everyone will agree is superb - my opinion of the SQ is not important as I don't really know what I'm listening to but if my friends like it I shall be very happy as I will be held in high esteem by them. Dave.

There is good news. I have decided to invest in HD 598 as well. Already bought. Cost me dear $280 or so! In the last 2-4 months I have spent more than $5000+ on my audio stuff

Perhaps you should not have invested the $300 in tubes + $400 in HD650 + $300 in HD598 but simply bought the HD800 instead or, better yet go for an ortho + correction filter.
The HD598 is VERY close to the HD600 but with slightly more highs and slightly less bottom end. The HD558 is a cheaper version (same driver e.t.c.) and when you remove the foam from it is similar to the HD598 but you save money. Myself I would have sprung for the HD600 as this is truly a reference phone.
Ian is trying a HD558 now and owns the HD600 as well (the HD558 has slightly higher distortion levels though and a tad less bass extension, also very slightly more treble)
I owned the HD595 for a while but sold it, it didn't grow on me like some headphones do it is very similar to the 598 but has slightly less highs. More like the HD600 but not quite as excellent in all departments. The 595 is the predecessor of the 597 which came before the 698 and are all 'closely related'
Agreed, once you get bitten the hobby is expensive.

$650 was $500. And I spent more than $300 in tubes anyway, I don't regret any of my decisions.

The HD600 is the best of the bunch imo. It doesn't have the 'darkness' of the HD650 and is in no way edgy either. For me, the best of the HD series, but I have never heard the HD800.
I must say though, the HD series are quite close with regards to sound Sig and I'm really enjoying the HD558; especially at its price level. The 558 and 600 are possibly the best of the bunch at two price levels.
I'm going to buy an HD558 I think.
Frans, are you talking about removing the front felt over the drivers, much like the HD650 tights mod?

I wanted to buy the hd 600 but it isn't available in India. It is discontinued over here. The HD 800 is worth 3x the price compared to hd 650. Since I have heard both. If I had the money I would buy hd 800 without thinking
